"Is it more desirable to die as a hero?
"Of course, I know the vague answer to that: Yes. But why is it so important for humans to want to leave a mark in history? After all, it's more often that the unsung hero is the one who should be the most commemorated. And it's more important that you leave an impact on those that you love. Why do we seek to be loved by so many?
"I simply ask, because I know the answer-- and I don't understand it."
"There are plenty of ways to die. There are plenty of people to die. And there are plenty of people to implement the death. I am one of the latter-- an assassin, taken, trained, hired, and paid. All this to do what I'm told: to kill those that are supposed to be killed.
"I make death happen. I create a portal from Earth to Death's doors, wherever they may be. I come in the darkness of shadows, in the heat of day, in a family's backyard... anywhere, to assassinate whomever is the unlucky victim. Sure, they may have it coming, but that doesn't change the fact that I, among others, are at the tolls of the highway, leading to wherever it is after death.
"I've killed many. I don't keep track of the number anymore. I know I'm alive, and I know those I kill are most certainly not alive.
"If that's the case, why do I feel like I'm already dead?"
"If I could stand in front of the entire world and say one thing to everyone, I'm not sure what it would be.
"There's so much that the human race wants-- international peace; love, not war. No crime. No economy crisis, or any crisis of any kind. No deaths at such young ages. No diseases or cancers. Eternal happiness. I could go on. Anyone could.
"Even if I took one of the above topics and exploited it beyond the simplicity of the idea, I can't imagine how I would go about doing something like that. What would be the most understandable way? Through actions, or words? That is, assuming everyone knew exactly what you were talking about.
"We ask for so much, but we tend to not accept differences. We're comfortable around what we're used to, and though we try, we don't usually stray too far off the path. Why should we, when we ourselves are content? There isn't a way to appease everyone, because some of the things that make an individual happy conflict another's thoughts and wishes. Even then, people tell you to "Be yourself," and "Do what makes you happy."
"To be at peace, we would have to take away certain happiness. And where's the good in that? The image of a perfect world in each persons' head is different from the next. With someone as broken as Nat, I wonder what she sees.
"We would have to create a perfect world with no disasters, holding perfect people. But then what is of the people who say that nothing and no one is perfect?"
"There are two things I'm dying for right now:
"I'm fine with a gun, I'm fine with a dagger, but I'd really appreciate having my bow in hand and my arrows strapped to my back, fitting snugly in their quiver. The times that my archery has saved my life has been countless. Hopefully I can find one in this freakshow of a building. At least I keep my journal in my jacket, so I can record what's been happening.
"I also enjoy the different food that Hungary has to offer, but I'm dying for some American fast food. The simple pleasures in life are the hardest to be torn away from."
