As The Doctor was about to open the door, he thought a second time. This was a parallel universe, Gallifrey could be a different color, there could be no time lords, no humans, the universe could simply not exist. But he was used to these thoughts, as he got them every time he was about to open the rickety TARDIS doors. But after them came the sense of excitement, of unknowing that makes your spine tingle and your fingers itch to pull the handle. 3....2....1. He pulled. And there it was. The flaming red planet of Gallifrey, spinning slowly in front of his eyes, shimmering as the oceans passed through the light of the deep orange sun. He looked at it with a sense of longing and despair.

However any thoughts in his mind about Gallifrey were instantly erased. It started slowly, a slight vibration like a magnitude 3 earthquake. But then, very quickly, it all blew up. The TARDIS shook violently, knocking the Doctor to the floor yet again. He landed hard on his chin, and his eyes began to fill with black. But just before he lost consciousness, he witnessed the cause to this whole event. Thirty red and white single man fighters, armed to the teeth, flew by the open doors of TARDIS at lightning speed. He only glanced them for a second, but his extraordinary mind made easy sense of what was happening in an instant. The fighters were obviously flying in attack position, at attack speed.

This is odd. The Doctor thought. What are they doing in attack position coming from Gallifrey?

Overwhelmed with curiosity, the Doctor snapped out of his near unconscious state and vaulted over to the controls. It was events like these that made the Doctor love traveling, and he was not going to lose out on this magnificent opportunity.

As quick as he could, the Doctor did 3 key things. First, on this more-than-rare occasion, he manipulated the chameleon circuit so the TARDIS would look like an X-Wing, as opposed to the classic police box. He was instantly shocked at what he had done. He was unsure whether he would be able to stand the thought. Nonetheless, the control morphed into what the X-Wing cockpit looked like.

Next. he tuned the TARDIS radio transmitter into the channel that the X-Wings were using, meaning he could pick up and respond to what they were saying. If he were going to get to the bottom of these events, he would have to pick up the radio chatter.

And finally, The Doctor piloted the TARDIS into flight alongside the other X-Wings. These were new and unfamiliar controls that would take some getting used to, yet they were relatively easy to decipher. It was just the same as piloting a plane. Pull back on the twin joysticks and you fly up, push forward and you lean forward. If the Doctor could only fit himself in with this operation, which was obviously military, he would be successful. After a few seconds of furious thinking, a light bulb blinked on and the Doctor had an idea that was so crazy it just might work.
