I had nowhere to go. The only shelter nearby was the pack house of the boy who had killed my family.

Luckily, he didn't recognize me. Time had changed me. When I sought out the alpha, his father, he stood beside him. I feared he'd realize who I was. But his father took me in before his son could object. That day, I was granted a place in the pack.

Years passed. His father died. He became alpha.

And he wanted me gone.

As an outsider, I had always been ranked as an omega-better than being a rogue, but barely. When the new alpha took over, he dismissed most omegas. His allies left him in anger, so he didn't expel us all at once. One by one, we were cast out. I was the last.

The final rule was clear: one mistake, and you were out.

Last night, I made one. Now, my punishment awaited.

They called it "rogue hazing."

Today, I was stripped of protection. The pack hurled insults, their voices echoing in the daylight. By nightfall, they gathered in a circle around me as I slept. The murmurs woke me. A man stepped forward, smirking.

"Filthy little rogue."

Applause. Cheers. The crowd fed on my humiliation. An old woman stepped forward, a basket of rotting vegetables in hand. She dumped them over me, her smile sickly sweet.

"This one suits you," she sneered, pointing at a moldy green lump. The crowd hesitated, then erupted in laughter.

Omegas never received respect. We had to fight for it-literally. In the fighting pits, one battle could change our fate. Win, and you took the rank of your opponent. Lose, and exile was immediate. Some had succeeded, but most were never seen again.

As a child, I had dreamed of victory in that arena. As an adult, I was barely strong enough to stand.

Reality struck as the circle closed in. I was weak. My wolf, Esmeralda, was weaker. She trembled, exhausted from their abuse. But we needed to move.

A gap. An opening.

I forced myself up and sprinted-or rather, stumbled-toward it. My legs barely carried me, but I pushed forward. The alpha's gaze burned into me. I braced for his order to stop me.

It never came.

Instead, something flickered in his eyes-regret? Pity? Or was I imagining it? His father had made him ruthless, forced him to be stronger than he was. But for a moment, he let me go.

I ran.

By nightfall, I had left their territory. I was a rogue now. Alone, hunted.

And carrying a secret the alpha never wanted revealed.

Hey everyone! I've completely re-edited this chapter to give it a more cohesive and complete and shorter feel. Some scenes are still the same as what you may have read before, but I've made sure it flows better this time. I hope it's clearer than before! If you find anything confusing or need more explanation, feel free to leave a comment.
