"Mason, why were you arrested?" I asked him, my mother still on the phone in the kitchen.
"I was in a fight."
"But you said--"
"I said it wasn't pointless. And, it wasn't."
"What was it about?"
"Some guy threatened to hurt someone I cared about. So, I punched him. I was just protecting her, I swear. But, the cops didn't believe me."
"I believe you." I smiled, kissing his cheek, "And, I'm sure your mom was thankful."
"How'd you know? I never said it was my--"
"Because, you would have said girlfriend, or friend, or sister, or someone else. You're too embaressed to talk about your mom, I've noticed that, but you're protective of her, Mace."
His cheeks turned bright red, "Um, yeah. My dad was out of town, and some guy from her work found out she was home alone. He showed up at the house, but my mom wasn't home, thank god."
"You're a good kid," I smiled, hoping my mom would feel the same way.
Thankfully, she did.

I covered my eyes with my hands when the light flickered on. Mason laughed, turning it off and on, off and on, off an on. "Mason," I groaned, knowing it was him. My mom, surprisingly, had even allowed him to spend the night last night, as long as he slept on the couch in the livingroom, and we had no contact of any sort throughout the night. We were allowed to text each other, even though he was only downstairs, but I wasn't allowed to leave my room to see him, and he wasn't allowed upstairs, at all.
It was fair, though, and I didn't blame her.

I rolled onto my side, grabbing my phone as the screen lit up. I read over the messages, typing responses to each of his replies.
Mason: I wish you could come downstairs
Hallie: I wish I could too,
Mason: I wish I could come upstairs.
Hallie: I wish you could too.
Mason: Hallie, about what I said yesterday..
Hallie: Uh-oh..
Mason: Lol, no! I wanted to tell you that I mean it. I really do love you. I've never felt like this about anyone else before. Ever. I am completely and totally in love you with, Gorgeous.
Hallie: Good. Because, I mean it too. I love you, too. And, p.s., I'm not gorgeous..
Mason: It's getting late, you should go to sleep babe, and yes, you most certainly are. No arguing.
Hallie: I don't want to. You're more important than sleep. And, fine. But, I don't think so.
Mason: Hallie, go to bed. You're obviously tired.
Hallie: Fine, fine. Come up here tomorrow morning, the second my mom wakes up. Goodnight, Mace. I love you.<3
Mason: I love you too, Hal.(:
