That night, as I suspected, Hallie fell asleep well before anything happened.

~♥~

"Come downstairs with me," She moaned into my mouth during our make out session, "just for a second. Then it's just me and you, all night."

Lies.

She walked slowly down the stairs, careful not to wake up her mom who had just fallen asleep, or any of the family that decided to spend the night. "I just wanna get something to eat," She whispered to me, taking my hand and leading me towards the kitchen. But as we crept past the living room, we heard crying. but, it wasn't a woman. We could tell that much.

"Mikey?"

"Oh, hi." He sniffled wiping his eyes, shocked at the sound of Hallie's voice.

"Hey, you okay?"

"Oh, right, yeah, fine."

"Listen, it's okay to cry--"

"I wasn't crying."

"Right," I laughed, patting his shoulder.

"Did you guys--"

"Mikey!" Hallie screamed, covering her face, "Ew!"

"Nope," I laughed, sitting next to Mikey while Hallie ran into the kitchen.

We talked for a few minutes, I convinced him that it was okay to cry. That even I cried a little bit. He told me he missed his girlfriend, and I told him that if she loved him, she'd be there when he got back.

Hallie came back with a tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and handed us each a spoon, plopping next to us on the couch. I flicked in a scary movie, hoping to cheer Mikey up, but by the end, Mikey was wide-awake in the chair across the room, a blanket wrapped around him, covering part of his eyes, and Hallie's head was on my lap, her feet stretched out on the couch. She was sleeping.

I carried up upstairs after the movie was over, Mikey coming with to make sure we were safe. He was scared. Admit it, Kid.

And that's how I ended up here, half asleep on the couch watching a bunch of 'scary' movies. I was half-asleep, not scared in the least at these lame attempts at becoming horror classics, yet Mikey was huddled in blankets, eyes opened wide. I listened to the lame movies, but my eyes stayed close, my head resting on the pillow. I could faintly see the flickering light from the t.v. as it lit up in the darkness, soft screams coming from it, careful not to wake anyone.

"Am I going to get in trouble for showing you this?" I whispered when Mikey jumped up, gasping.

"Wh-What? No-No, it's fine."

"Mikey, this is--"

"It's fine, Mason."

"Mikey, if you wanted to talk--"

"Sh!"

I groaned, sitting up. I could tell by his short answers--even with my eyes closed--he was crying. I rubbed my eyes, opening them slowly so they could adjust to the television light.

"Mikey, don't cry. It's okay, really." I smiled, standing up and giving him a--what Hallie calls--'man hug'. He nodded. I left him to watch the movie, still worried, but too tired to stay.

So here I was, dragging my lifeless body up the stairs, sneaking past all of the rooms where just on the other side of the door, only a few feet away, there was parents, or younger children, sleeping peacefully, exhausted from the day's sad events.

I pushed up the door, forgetting that Hallie was asleep, and I grumbled flipping on the light and starting to undress. Leaving only my boxers on, I flipped it back off and climbed into bed next to the prettiest girl in the world, her eyes half open, a smile on her lips.

"Sorry, Hal. Go back to sleep,"

"I'm sorry I fell asleep, before--" but I interrupted her, "Babe, it's okay. Really, just get some sleep."

"How's Mikey?"

"He's a little upset. He's downstairs watching movies."

"Still? All those scary ones? Oh Mason..."

"I know, I tried to stop him. He's okay, though,"

And she cuddled up against me, falling asleep immediately. Tonight was okay, actually. The kids got along well, and there were no more arguements about whether I was part of the family, because I was, now. And that felt good.

Ah, it's short! I know. I'm sorry!

But, the next chapter will be gooooooood.

This was lame, not much going on. But, prepare for the TWIST
