Chapter One: A Fateful Encounter

_____Rain was falling in sheets, almost as if the gods were showering the world. A lone figure, oblivious to the torrent, wandered the deserted streets of Death City, clothes plastered to his skin. His black hoodie stood out against the stark white of his pale body. His hood was pulled back, revealing his jet-black hair. At first glance, one might have assumed he was a normal citizen. But if someone were to look more closely, they would just see the top of a star peek out from the base of his neck. This boy was anything but normal. This boy was a member of the Star Clan.
______As he walked down an alley, he heard shouting to his right. When he went to investigate, he saw a gang of muggers cornering two teenagers, a boy with light brown hair and slightly tanned skin in ragged clothing, and a girl with the same skin but darker brown hair. As he watched, the girl transformed into a dagger. "She's a weapon..." The black-haired boy whispered to himself. The other boy grabbed the knife and slashed at the nearest thug, moonlight glinting on the silver blade.
______As the corpse fell with a fresh gouge in his neck, most of the other thugs fled, but one stood his ground, pulling out a .45 pistol. When he saw it, the boy flipped the dagger into the air and jumped, spinning. After a heartbeat, the girl was back, holding a mythril katana. As the thug fired the pistol, the girl blocked with such skill that she split the bullet in half, causing the shards to fly by her harmlessly. One shard almost hit a strange purple cat, which yowled and disappeared into the night. The girl then sliced the gun in half and gutted the thug, collapsing as the boy transformed back.
______The black-haired boy ran over to the twins. "Are you guys OK?"
______The boy on the ground glared warily up at him. "Who are you? What do you want?"
______"My name is Kirian. I was just wondering if the two of you were hurt." He checked them over for wounds. "What are your names?"
______The boy started to object, but his twin cut him off. "It's OK, Lucien. We can trust him." She turned back to Kirian. "My name is Lucille, and this is Lucien. We're fine. Growing up on the streets, you get used to this sort of thing. But what are you doing out here?"
______"I was just heading home. Why don't the two of you come with me? You can get a change of clothes, a nice meal, and a good nights sleep."
______The twins stared into each others icy blue eyes, having a silent argument. Finally, Lucien nodded. "Very well, then. Lead the way."
______When they reached Kirian's house, Lucille looked around as Lucien went to change. "Where are your parents?"
______"My mom died ten years ago, when I was six. My dad left a few months ago, but I don't know why. I've been on my own ever since..." Kirian went into the kitchen to cook dinner.
______"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up a sore subject." She glanced at the desk and noticed an application for the DWMA.
______"Are you a meister, by any chance?" Lucien, wearing some of Kirian's old clothes, stared at him intently.
______"I-I want to be, but I don't have a weapon..." Kirian put three bowls of Mac and Cheese on the table and went to throw the application away.
______Lucille stopped him. "What if... What if we were to be your partners?" Lucien stared at her in bewilderment, his gaze snapping from Lucille to Kirian and back again. "W-wait a minute! Don't I get a say in this?!?" Lucille glared at him and he sighed.
______Kirian just stood there. "Y-you would do that? For someone you just met?"
______Lucien sighed again. "Yes we would. You have given us a reprieve from the streets. If you let us stay with you, we will be your partners."
______Kirian whipped around, throwing his hands in the air, Star Clan's signature excitement showing. "All right! This is gonna be awesome!"
______Lucien and Lucille smiled at each other, nodding in agreement. The three of them began filling out the application to enroll in Death Weapon Meister Academy, the famous DWMA.
