It's been a month since this guy started coming to the book store, at least three days a week. He's become the latest gossip around work, the "usuals" stop in maybe once every two weeks. Everyone watches him when he comes in, trying to find out if he's who they think he is, I think people are going to start placing bets on this guys lifestyle. He's gotta be a really bored millionaire, $70 is the least amount I've seen him spend every time, and he always pays with cash. But I guess now wouldn't be the time to think about the fact that I've found him more and more attractive and interesting with each painfully awkward encounter we share. He's quiet, always looks worried and tired, and stammers every time anyone asks him anything. Something about him draws me in, I just want to see him come out of his shell, it actually makes me look forward to his visits. I've seen him multiple times a week for about 4 weeks, and not once did I catch his name. But it's hard enough when all the employees grin every time I check him out..er..by "checking him out" I mean ringing up his purchases..
The bell dings and then he walks in, I turn to look at all the other employees and they do their usual squealing and whispering before they wave me into the break room.
"Shit, he's a fucking murderer, he's gonna rob us" Ashley starts, laughing.
"Why would you think that? He's just mysterious..and rich.." Rachel, another employee jokes.
"He's wearing a hood today, the end is near bitches!!" Ashley covers her mouth to try and hush her laughter.
"Hey hey, Ash, don't make fun of Chance's man" Rachel mocks.
I smile with them,
"Shut up guys! He's not my man. He's just hot"
"Chance.." Ashley starts with a giggle.
"If instead of being all twitchy and quiet your man pinned you against the wall today, id put my damn savings on the fact that you'd let him fuck you to infinity and beyond"
"Shut up!" I say again with a laugh, pushing the other two as we engage in a laughing fit before we hear the bell ring at the register, accompanied by a voice saying "hello???"
Ashley and Rachel share terrified glances and push me out of the break room.
"Ready?" I try and politely say as I pray he didn't hear our conversation.
"Yup. Quick stop today." He chuckles.
"You know the drill" I say as I hand him the receipt and pen.
He quickly signs his name and hands me the paper. "Thanks" I smile as he picks his books up. "Frank" he finishes my sentence.
"Huh?" I lean in closer to catch what he said.
"Frank, my names Frank."
"Oh, well then have a good day, Frank!"
"You too...?" He looks at me for my name.
"Chance."
"Chance?" He responds.
"Yeah, I know, it's normally a guy's na-" I start before he cuts me off.
"That's really rad, I like that name."
"See you next week, Chance." He grins and walks out the door yet again.
