CHAPTER 17

There’s nothing more glorious than waking up on a Friday morning, knowing it’s the last day you’d have to go to school for that week.

Eh who am I kidding, if it involves waking up early, then there are millions of things better than that. Yes, as you have guessed I am definitely not a morning person. I’m not a “Friday” person either, unlike most people. The only thing I was looking forward to today was to get it over with so I can upload our video later at midnight.

I got myself (reluctantly) ready for school and dragged myself downstairs for breakfast when my phone sounded.

From: Jack (EEEEP)

Good morning, Becca!! :) Don’t forget about your video! Midnight’s the deadline :>

Yes, Jack has been texting me every now and then, occasionally Finn would, too. (Oh, and yeah we changed the deadline as well after some arguing by Hanna that posting it at midnight would allot more time for voting, especially for people from different time zones.) It’s usually about the contest but sometimes we sneak in random conversations. It’s been days and yet I still manage to tear up whenever I see that I receive a new message from “Jack (EEEEP)”

To: Jack (EEEEP)

How could I forget? Can’t wait to beat your butts ;)

From: Jack (EEEEP)

Don’t be so confident :> Don’t worry though, we’re humble in victory :)

“Becca you’re going to be late if you keep smiling at your phone like that.” My mum scolded me as I made a move to reply to Jack. “Who’re you texting anyway?”

“No one.” I shrugged as I locked my iPhone and quickly placed it in my pocket.

“Becky’s been googly eyes over Jack since forever!” Mike said, suddenly bouncing up the room, making my mothers’ eyebrows shoot up at me. I love Mike, but sometimes I wish he’d honestly keep our little secrets.

“Nothing! Well, like you said mum, I’m going to be late!” I said as I quickly finished my pancakes and stuffed my things in my bag. “Gotta go! Bye!!!” I said, making my way to the front door. My mum probably thinks I’m mental.

“Hey Becca,” I heard Ashley call out as I walked up the gates of our school. Now is not the time, Ashley. Do not ruin my perfectly good mood that was only slightly because Jack texted me. “Heard your prom date hunting wasn’t going as planned, huh?” She said with a smirk. Surprisingly she wasn’t with her posse that always clung to her like leeches.

“And you’re concerned with this because...?” I said, wanting more than anything to just leave her there and go back to daydreaming about Jack, I mean, go back to walking towards first period. Yup, that’s what I meant.

“Oh, nothing! It’s just that a prom queen can’t go dateless!” She said, adding what I guess was supposed to be a dramatic effect by opening her mouth in “shock” and covering it with her hand. “Although, that won’t be a problem for you, considering you don’t have chances of winning, anyway.” She added with a sickly sweet smile.

“Whatever, Ashley,” I laughed. “That’s not even going to phase me because I honestly don’t give a fuck if I win prom queen or not.” Which was true, but I didn’t want Ashley to be prom queen either.

“Really?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. “Then why’d you go through all the trouble to ask Ethan, when obviously he’s already going with me?” She said, an air of arrogance in her voice. Does this blonde not understand anything? Does she honestly think every single thing I do is for prom?
