despite the tension that had formed between kamryn and joaquín after the airbnb trip to catskill, they had spoken it out and she forgave him. as a consequence they were in the best of moods when it came to valentines day.
after a day full of caring for the kids, the evening was theirs. soft jazz music played on the low from a small speaker while the faint fragrance of herbs and seasonings lingered from the salmon joaquín had cooked that evening.
the lights were dimmed casting a cozy glow over the living room floor where they sat feasting whilst watching a random netflix series. it wasn't the most romantic some may say and definitely not the most extravagant but kamryn was happy and so was joaquín and that's all that mattered.
she gazed over at joaquín with a smile as he ate "you went all out" she smiled.
he chuckled with a shrug "i cooked a meal".
"yes a meal which took time and effort, and in my books that means going all out" she said, slipping her hand into his "hence you went all out".
"thank you beautiful" he replied bringing her hand to his lips.
"no, thank you" kamryn smiled looking at the spread between them before leaning in to kiss his lips.

across the city, in what used to be the shared home of kamryn and dave, dave was with melissa.
melissa laughed as she dropped tirelessly on the couch surrounded by bags and boxes. they had entered practically every store on fifth when dave said get whatever you want and she did just that.
now her feet ached and her head spun but she was still high off fun.
"thank you baby" she smiled at dave as he walked in the room.
"no worries" he responded pecking her lips as she pouted.
she curled up into the corner of the sectional couch and sipped wine straight from the bottle and scrolled on her phone whilst dave walked out back to smoke.
as his mind wandered he thought about kamryn and what she was doing, how her day had been. he had a couple gifts for her, nothing fancy, nothing inappropriate for the relationship they did have just something to voice his appreciation for her as a mother.
he then thought about the kids wondered if they were okay and sent kamryn a message regarding them. he didn't expect her to see it yet, he just wanted the ball to be in her court.
