field trip to olympusᯓᡣ𐭩
𝐎𝐋𝐘𝐌𝐏𝐔𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐑 than anyone would have anticipated.
For starters, nobody was actually ever informed that it wasn't a mountain, like they'd expected, but, instead, was the 600th floor of the Empire State Building.
Maisie, being the history nerd she was, was kinda bummed. She foolishly thought that they'd somehow travel all the way to Greece and visit the infamous mountain that served as the home of the gods.
However, she'd take whatever she was given at this point, because she was bored and wanted a little getaway, away from Camp Half-Blood and training and monster fighting and solstices.
They had just stepped out of the bus, the light breeze of New York City inviting them in, a new adventure awaiting them.
Maisie had never really been anywhere outside home and camp, so she welcomed the new experience, one she had her friends with her for.
"Woah," she said to no one in particular, though Luke appeared next to her just as she spoke. "It's taller than I imagined."
Luke sighed wistfully, following her gaze up the skyscraper. "It is, isn't it?"
Maisie peeled her eyes off the building and looked at him, a smile growing on her lips at the adoration on his face, though she suspected it wasn't because of the skyscraper.
She intertwined their hands, forcing his attention back to her. He turned, gently squeezing her hand and leaning just a bit closer to her, some assurance that she would be by his side.
Maisie dragged Luke on, swiftly following the group, led by Chiron, who was blabbing about the building and something about the mortals around. Probably. Maisie wasn't actually really listening. The thought of stepping into the place where the gods lived and held meetings was a tad overwhelming.
Luke's hand in hers kept her grounded, reminding her that this was supposed to be a fun experience, a chance to lay back and selflessly enjoy herself.
Chiron led them in, where they all took turns taking the elevator, a counselor in there each time. Maisie and Luke got separated, considering everyone (mostly the Stoll brothers) complained, partially because two counselors weren't needed for one elevator ride, partially because everyone was sick of them being attached at the hip at this point.
Maisie led cabin six and seven up, the elevator ride seemingly long at first, until it started speeding up after the actual floors of the building were passed.
"I can't believe we're actually here," Annabeth commented, her gaze lingering on a random spot of the elevator wall, her mind surely already in the throne room that they were about to see up close. "I mean, we're going to see mom's throne."
"I know. Do you think it'll be super extravagant or like… sophisticated and smart?" Maisie joked around, a smile forming on her face.
Annabeth laughed, the sound echoing in the confined space. "Imagine if we're preparing for gold and whatever and it's just… a rock."
Maisie let out a laugh at that too, her hand slapping on her mouth so as to not annoy the other kids.
"It very well could be."
