The sun had dipped low, casting golden hues across the neighborhood. Rafayel and Jiwon walked side by side, the box of kittens nestled carefully in Rafayel’s arms. A soft mew came from within every few steps, making Jiwon giggle quietly.

“You sure you don’t wanna go back for your car?” Jiwon asked, glancing at him.

Rafayel shrugged. “It’s just a car. I’ll pick it up tomorrow. Or later. Doesn’t matter.”

Jiwon blinked, surprised again by how casually Rafayel let things go when it came to him. “…Thanks again. Really.”

Rafayel nodded once. “You don’t have to keep thanking me.”

“I think I do,” Jiwon said softly.

The moment the door opened, voices exploded from within.

“Where the hell were you??” Minho shouted, halfway down the stairs.

“And what’s in the box?!” Seungmin called from the kitchen.

Felix ran over in socks, nearly slipping on the hardwood. “Wait—Rafayel? You were with Jiwon?! And—are those—kittens?!”

Jeongin peered out from behind the couch with wide eyes. “He left in the car this morning. Did you seriously walk back?!”

Rafayel calmly stepped aside, letting Jiwon enter first with the biggest grin they’d seen on him in weeks.

“Okay—okay! Chill, everyone!” Jiwon said, holding up his hands like he was trying to settle a riot. “I went to the park. Rafayel found me. I told him I wanted to go to the mall so he took me. And then—I saw a pet store and—”

He lifted the box and bent down, gently letting the two kittens peek out.

“They were just… so cute. And I don’t know why but I really wanted them. And Rafayel just bought them! Like—just like that!”

Everyone froze.

Hyunjin blinked. “So… wait. He took you shopping? And came back with cats? And didn’t come home with the car?”

“I can get the car later,” Rafayel said casually, already making his way toward the hallway. “Didn’t feel like forcing him into it when he clearly panicked just looking at it.”

Minho crossed his arms, watching him carefully. “You walked all the way back here from the mall?”

Rafayel just nodded. “He wanted to go. I had time.”

“More importantly—cats!” Jeongin knelt beside the box, watching as the white kitten pawed its way out and climbed onto Jiwon’s leg.

“They’re perfect, right?” Jiwon’s voice was warm and full of joy. “This one’s all hyper and clingy, and the other one’s shy. Like total opposites.”

“Sounds familiar,” Seungmin muttered under his breath with a glance at Rafayel and Jiwon, making Felix snort.

Jisung appeared from the hallway, rubbing his eyes sleepily. “You good, Jiwon? You left earlier looking sad.”

Jiwon smiled softly. “Yeah. I’m good now.”

He looked down at the kittens as they both curled up beside him on the rug. “Really good.”

Felix flopped down next to him, grinning. “What’re you gonna name them?”

“I don’t know yet,” Jiwon said, lying down on his stomach with the kittens crawling over his hands. “But I feel like I’ve known them forever.”

Rafayel leaned against the doorframe silently, watching the way Jiwon’s face glowed under the soft lighting of the living room, the way his laugh bounced freely around the space.
