The air smelt of dirt and sweat- it was blowing through the car and right in my face- I loved it. It smelled of the outdoors because there was nothing else around to mask that smell. The beautiful state of California was gone and I was surrounded by the just as beautiful surroundings of Arizona.

It was my parent's idea, to be quite honest. They claimed I was too much of a city girl and needed to go back to my roots to rekindle the old me; and I agree, it needs to happen.  Dirt and sweat aren't really my style anymore and I kinda miss that. I'd rather throw on some high heels and leggings- I need to get back to my old self and throw on some jeans and boots.

As I neared my parent's ranch, I could hear the gravel crunching beneath my truck. That's the other thing, my parent's made me to drive out here. Claimed it would clear my head of some of the city crap I was used to. They decided that they wanted to spend their summer on the beaches of Florida and that I should take a vacation of my own. They tend to forget that I am 23 and can make decisions by myself.

I came to a halt as the ranch house came into a close-up view. It was much bigger then I remembered. The whole place had been repainted a dark brown with black accents. My parent's always did love dark colors, and it seemed to be being taken care of.

The first spot I found was the spot I claimed as my parking space. There weren't actual parking spaces since there was no real drivewy but I still claimed that spot. It was a little space next to the house off to the side and not in the way of anything.

I grabbed my purse and small bag that I had in the front seat and got out of my truck. Walking around to my trunk, I grabbed the latch and pulled down my tailgate then grabbed my two suitcases. It was a bit of a struggle to get them out and up to the front door considering how big they were but I managed. Once they were on the front porch, I went back to my car and began carrying the few bags I had with my shoes in them.

It was about 20 minutes later and four trips before I was able to sit down and catch my breath in one of the rooms I claimed. My old room in this house is all packed up and so I picked out the room I always wanted.

"Umm, can I help you?" A deep voice asked.

I looked over at the doorway and saw a tall man standing there with his arms crossed. He didn't look happy, why was he in my house?

"I'm sitting here," I replied.

"No shit. I meant, why are you in this house?" He snapped.

"It's my house."

He looked at me funny for a minute, his face had confusion written all over it, "your Mrs. Banner?"

"No, I'm Kayla."

"Your their daughter?" He asked as if he was shocked.

"Is that a surprise to you?"

"Well, yeah, kinda is."

"Yeah, well- I need to unpack- and who are you?"

"Chris."

"And your here because?"

"I work here," he said as he walked off.

Rude much? I would not hire him if my life depended on it. I need to tell my parents about how rude he was.

After unpacking and settling in, I was very hungry. I left my room and found my way into the kitchen to find some food. As I was opening all the cabinets, I noticed there was no food. Not even any in the freezer, fridge, or pantry. Luckily just as I turned around, I saw Chris about to walk out.
