Old Friends

I got a call from my good friend, Abby, last night. I guess she heard I was in town for a few months and decided to call me asking to hang out. Of course I said yes, the place to hang out, I did not choose. I had no choice in that.

I thought I would be nice and invite Chris. So, I went out to the horse field that he was working in and decided to ask. As I approached him, I noticed how hard he seemed to be working. He was sweating really bad and looked red as can be.

"Hey Chris!"

He looks up at me and smiles, "hey you, what's up?"

The way he said 'hey you' had my stomach filled with butterflies. Why did that just happen tho? What is going on?

"Oh, umm, well my friend, Abby, found out that I was in town for a few months and invited me out tonight."

"Yeah? That sounds like fun."

"Yeah, I actually came out to ask if you wanted to come along?"

"Oh- do you think I would fit in? I mean, I am a bit older than you and your friends and wouldn't really fit in-"

"Don't be silly! You aren't that much older and besides, Abby is gonna have a bunch of her other friends and will kinda forget about me... she usually does that. I love her to death but she gets distracted easily."

He looked at me like he felt bad for me and that made me feel stupid. He shouldn't have to go just because he feels bad about me going all alone.

"Umm, nevermind," I started. "You don't have to go-"

"I would love to go."

He shocked me with his sudden acceptance. I didn't expect him to say he would go with me, "you know you don't have to go with me just because you feel bad."

"And I'm not, I accepted your offer because I wanted to."

His honesty made me smile, "okay, I'll see you later then!"

"Wait- where are we going?"

"Oh yeah... the only bar in town that's not just a little hole in the wall."

The finishing products on my look for tonight made me feel good about myself. I was wearing the perfect amount of makeup and my outfit wasn't too revealing. It was just right.

I had on a short black dress with that had cut outs on my sides all the way to the back. The end of the dress cut of mid thigh and my hot pink heels made me feel taller than I actually was. Now all I have to do it find Chris and not feel stupid for being all dressed up.

It didn't take long to find him, I just tapped on his door across the hall and he opened it. When the door opened and revealed Chris in his blue jeans, boots, and a black t-shirt, I couldn't help but to stare. He looked really good.

"Wow," he breathed.

I looked back up to his face and got worried. His eyes were wide and his face looked shocked, "I-Is something wrong?"

"No! I mean- no, you look great," he smiles.

I return the smile and we head out. The ride to the club was fairly quick. We only live like 40 minutes from the nearest town but once you drive the distance a few times, you get used to it and it doesn't feel like long.

The talking in the car was minimum. Chris made an attempt at a conversation about 20 minutes into the ride but ended up just ending it because of whatever reason. He seemed nervous for some reason but I couldn't figure out what could be making him so nervous. After about 20 more minutes of driving, we make it there and I park my truck.
