It's been a few days since Chris surprised me with the beach trip and I haven't been able to stop smiling since. Spending all day at the ranch is actually enjoyable now since he's always around. I would be sitting around waiting for him to finish his work today like I usually do, but Abby called and asked if I wanted to come over to her house today.
Chris has a lot of work to do around the ranch, so I agreed. Normally I would lounge around scrolling through my phone till he finishes but it will be good for me to get out of the house today. It's a nice day out and I've been cooped up for days now.
Since I'm just going over to Abby's, I don't bother much with how I look. I throw on some black leggings, a plain black tank-top, some vans and call it good. When I'm finished, I grab my purse and throw my keys and phone in it before leaving my room to go find Chris. I don't wanna worry him if he goes looking for me today and can't find me.
It doesn't take me long to find him, he's working in the stables fixing something. He turns around when he hears me coming and greets me with a warm smile. I return the smile as I continue walking towards him.
He stands up and gives me a kiss as soon as I'm within arms reach. It's not a long or hungry kiss like most of ours are, it's a short and sweet one that leaves butterflies in my stomach.
He pulls away all too soon, "hey you."
"Hey," I say biting my lip to try and control the smile beaming on my face.
"What are you up to today? You actually got dressed instead of just staying in your pajamas all day."
"I'm gonna go over to Abby's for a bit and wanted to let you know so you weren't worried if you tried to find me or something."
He chuckles softly, "well thank you for telling me, are you gonna be back tonight? I was hoping to do dinner with you. You only have a few more weeks out here till you leave for Cali."
The mention of leaving for California makes my stomach twist up in knots. With everything happening between Chris and me, I don't wanna go back. I know he would never uproot and move to Cali with me and as much as I love staying here with him, I have to go back. I can't live in my parent's house forever.
I don't wanna worry him so I push those thoughts aside, "I'll definitely be back to have dinner with you."
He smiles and kisses me again quickly before pulling back, "good, then I'll let you go have your fun while I finish up work here today."
I give him one more smile before saying okay and turning to head out of the stable. My truck is right outside the horse stable since I didn't feel like walking all the way down here. As soon as I'm in the truck, I let out a heavy sigh before I start driving.
I love Abby to death but I don't know why I agreed to hang out at her house today. She's just gonna wanna day drink till she's drunk and I'll have to listen to her complain about whatever is bothering her.
It doesn't take me long to get to her house, she only lives a few miles from my house on her parent's ranch. Our dads would work together occasionally so that's how we met so many years ago. I ended up going over there all the time growing up and for the first year after I moved, we kept in contact almost daily but then we fell off.
I pull up to her house and park in the same spot I always have and let out a heavy sigh. It's not like I'm not excited to see her today, I'm just not mentally prepared for the visit. I should have waited another hour or two before coming over but it's too late now.
Once out of my truck, I drag my feet up to her front porch and knock on the door. I can hear yelling inside and someone running around. A few seconds later, the door flies open and there is Abby smiling at me.
