Letters I Never Sent

Some love stories are meant to be told out loud, with grand gestures, spoken words, and a love that everyone sees. But then there are the ones that never get to speak, the stories that live quietly in the pages of unwritten letters, never seen, never heard.

Jimin was one of those stories. Quiet, reserved, and content in his silence. He didn't stand out, never tried to. His world was small. He worked behind the counter at a local cafe, his hands constantly moving, making drinks for people who never noticed him. College was no different...he sat in the back of the lecture halls, his eyes often hidden behind the pages of textbooks or lost in the quiet of his own thoughts.

He preferred it that way.

Jimin wasn't the type to seek attention. He didn't need people to look at him, to know he existed. He found beauty in the smallest things, the unnoticed moments....the steam rising from a fresh cup of coffee, the soft rustle of pages turning in a book, the faint hum of the world moving around him. He was a ghost, and he was fine with that.

But then, one night, everything changed.

Jimin was scrolling through Instagram when his finger paused over a profile. It wasn't even a big thing, just a random photo that popped up. But in that moment, it felt like his world had come to a standstill.

Jungkook.

A stranger's face. A smile that seemed to reach into his chest, pulling something out of him he didn’t even know was there.

He didn't know Jungkook. He didn't know his voice or his laugh or even his full name. All he knew was the pull he felt when he looked at him. The connection was immediate, like a quiet spark in a dark room, a light that Jimin hadn’t even realized he was searching for.

The next day, he found himself on Jungkook's profile again. Liking every photo. Watching every story. Not that he ever commented or reached out. No, that was too dangerous. Too real.

So he kept his love hidden. In silence.

Jimin knew what it was like to love someone from afar. To look at someone you can never have and only imagine what it would be like if things were different. He told himself it didn't matter. That it was better this way.

And so, night after night, he wrote in his journal.

He wrote things he couldn't say aloud. Thoughts and feelings that had no place in his life, no outlet for expression. Words meant only for him.

"I don't know why I keep thinking about him. I don't know him. I shouldn't feel this way. But I do."

The entries grew longer. His heart grew heavier. Jimin tried to convince himself that it wasn't love, that it was just a passing infatuation. He tried to tell himself that it wasn’t worth writing about, worth feeling. But it was. It always was.

And then,  🌃, he saw something that would change everything.

Jungkook had posted a new photo. Jimin's fingers hesitated before he tapped on it. He froze as his eyes landed on the image: Jungkook, smiling, holding a baby in his arms. A woman stood beside him, a gentle smile on her lips.

Jimin's stomach dropped. His heart....once so full of quiet longing....shattered in an instant.

Is he married?

The question ran through his mind over and over, a constant refrain he couldn't silence. He stared at the photo, his breath shallow, his hands trembling. It felt like he had been punched in the chest.
