I had been trying to call Taehyung for the two hour now. Why wasn't he picking up? I stared at the screen again, his name sitting there coldly like it was mocking me. The call wouldn't go through. Straight to voicemail. Again and again.
The guilt pressed heavier with each minute. Honestly, it was my fault. I was busy helping Jin with his proposal plans for Haein. He had called me while I was with him and I was playing the good sister, fixing his posture, making him rehearse his lines, pushing him into position like we were on a film set. Of course it should be perfect. It was Jin, after all.
People had gathered out of curiosity. They were laughing, teasing him, recording even. I had to shoo them away like some proposal security guard because Jin, for once, looked genuinely shy. And right when my phone rang again, in all that noise and excitement, I fumbled and accidentally cut the call. Just like that. One swipe and it was gone.
God, I'm so stupid.
He was already mad at me. I knew that. And now? He had be furious. I even called him this morning, hoping to catch him before work, but no answer then either. Maybe he was ignoring me. No, not maybe. Definitely.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I ranted in my head like a broken record, dragging a hand through my hair.
I didn't even know where he would be right now. It was nearly 8. By now, he had usually be home. Should I go check the penthouse? That seemed like my only option. But Dad was still awake at home while Ivan had other things to do so he was still out. I had have to wait. Wait until the house was quiet.
Now, here I was-driving through dim-lit streets with shadows chasing me, heading toward Taehyung's place, hoping, praying that he'd be there. Of course, I couldn't exactly stroll in through the front gate. The guards didn't know me. Taehyung had always made sure of that. Every time I came over, he didn't let them see me. No eyes. No whispers. No names.
I parked near the back wall, heart pounding as I looked up at the sleek silhouette of the penthouse against the cloudy sky. The back entrance was closed. Obviously. But I knew the way in.
With a soft grunt, I jumped the fence-my landing a little too loud for comfort.
"Thud..."
A sigh escaped my lips. Guess my years of sneaking out of my own house hadn't completely gone to waste.
I slipped through the shadows and entered quietly through the window of his room, careful not to make a sound.
The lights were on. His scent lingered heavily in the air-warm, familiar, intoxicating. It wrapped around me like a memory. It meant he was here. Or had been, just minutes ago.
The room smelled just like him. I whispered, "Tae?" gently, my voice too soft for the space.
I crept inside. "Taehyung? Are you here?" Still silence. The bed was untouched. I moved to the bathroom. Empty. No sign of him... except-
