The meeting room was packed with executives, board members, and shareholders, all seated in their designated spots, their eyes sharp and expectant.
I sat next to my father, Kim Sehyun, his assistant on the other side. The long mahogany table gleamed under the golden chandeliers, the walls adorned with our company's legacy-portraits of my father, past achievements, and a vision statement that now felt ironic.
I wasn't here because I wanted to be-I was here because I had to be. Watching how things worked, how power was controlled, how business was conducted.
I let my gaze drift across the room, taking in the familiar faces of the shareholders. Some looked bored, others intrigued. A few employees at the back of the room whispered among themselves, likely speculating on what this meeting was about. I could feel the weight of their expectations pressing down on me.
My father stood up, and instantly, the murmurs died. His presence commanded silence.
"As you all know," he began, his voice even, calculated, "My son has been handling things with remarkable grace and taking responsibility because he had to."
A few nods from the board. Some shareholders exchanged approving glances, murmuring their agreement. I could almost hear their thoughts. He's young, but he's competent. The company is in good hands.
I kept my expression unreadable, though inside, I scoffed. Responsibility wasn't a choice for me-it was a burden forced upon me since I was born.
"Soon, he will be graduating, and as you all expected, I will be handing over my position."
A wave of interest rippled through the room. Some leaned forward. Others tapped their fingers against the table, waiting for the inevitable.
My father's next words, however, sent a sharp warning through my gut.
"However-"
My fingers curled slightly against the chair's armrest. That however wasn't supposed to be there.
"There is someone else who also deserves acknowledgment."
I stiffened. My instincts screamed.
No.
Don't.
My father glanced toward the entrance.
"So today, I introduce to you my elder son-Kim Seokjin."
The doors opened.
A hush fell over the room.
And there he was my brother , nah! My so called step brother -Kim Seokjin.
