Gabby looked around for somewhere to prop up and watch the twins teach. She was headed over to an open spot against the wall when Laurent stepped in front of her.

“Dancers only in this room,” he scowled down at her looking even taller than he had in the break room.

“I just want to watch and take some notes. Get a feel for what you do. That’s all.” Gabby rummaged around in her bag for a pad and a pen.

Laurent gave her the stone face and pointed to a window on the far wall.

“See that? That’s for you.”

Gabby could see a bunch of people already lining up in the little studio on the other side of the glass to watch. She turned to Larry, but he just shrugged and shook his head like, sorry, I can’t help you.

“I’m not going in there.” She put her hands on her hips, too stubborn to leave.

“Fine. You stay here? You dance.”

Laurent was just as stubborn as she was. They glared at each other for a long moment.Gabby broke first.

“Fine then,” she huffed and turned to walk over to Larry’s side of the room.

“Ooooh, no,” Laurent steered her back the other way. “Larry’s full. You in my group today.”

Defeated, she shrugged his arm off, made a bee-line for the very back of the class, and sat down on the floor to stretch. I’m gonna kill Patrick for sending me here.

The music started and Laurent screamed out “Five, Six, Seven, Eight!!!” to start the warm-up.

Gabby was self-conscious, but she tried to relax and just let her body move along with the music. She started to feel better once she realized that half the students couldn’t dance any better than she could.

There were a few professional dancers in the mix, but even they couldn’t keep up with the intricate choreography. No one was judging. Everyone was simply having fun and laughing at the twins’ silly antics.

At the end of class Gabby was sweated out and her hair had turned from springy curls to a puffy brown cloud of frizz on her head.

She tried to make a quiet escape, but Larry saw her leaving and waved her over. Reluctantly, she went.

“How you like my class?” Laurent asked with a menacing smile.

Gabby ignored him and spoke directly to Larry.

“I wasn’t planning on dancing today,” she cut her eyes at Laurent. “But the class was amazing. I definitely need to go do something to my hair before tonight though.”

“Oooh yesssss,” Larry teased, wrinkling up his nose cutely and reaching over to pull one of her matted curls.

Gabby slapped his hand away, but couldn’t help laughing.

“Bye, Gabby! See you at the club!” he sang out as she turned to go.
