Light shined into the room, nearly blinding Lyric as she opened her eyes. Her head felt like it was splitting in two and she felt sick to her stomach. What happened last night? She wondered to herself as she slowly sat up, finding that she was sleeping on the living room couch.
Looking around, she could tell that the party was a raging success. Many people were passed out in random places and there were empty bottles, cans and cigarettes all over the floor. Lyric could barely remember what had taken place, the whole night was a blur.
Lyric yawned, closing her sleepy eyes for a moment. The memory of her kissing Alex had then decided to show up, causing Lyric to quickly open her eyes again. Her stomach churned as she played out the scene in her head. Had anyone seen them kiss? What did Alex think? Was this wrong? Lyric had so many questions and her eyes searched the room frantically for Alex.
Quickly standing up, Lyric felt herself get dizzy and her knees wobbled but she carried on towards the staircase as her head throbbed. This was, by far, her worst hangover ever. Making it up into her room, Lyric smiled as she saw that Alex had fallen fast asleep in her bed. Alex looked so peaceful, she had tangled herself in the blankets, and her hand was tucked underneath the pillow in which she laid her head.
Shaking her head out of a trance, she looked away from Alex. Picking up her smartphone, Lyric saw that she had two text messages. Unlocking her phone, eager to see who the messages were from, she opened up her messages.
[2:31am] August: Zeven had too much to drink so I'm bringing him home
[3:00am] August: We made it home safely, gn
Sighing with relief, Lyric was glad to know the boys were safe. Standing in her room, Lyric thought about what would happen next. She didn't feel like the same person any more, though this other being inside her called out to her.
Walking over to her bed, Lyric climbed into it and laid beside Alex. She prayed to God that Alex wouldn't wake up, but with her luck, a sleepy hungover Alex then cuddled in closer to her. Lyric, half frightened, stared at Alex as she slowly opened her eyes. "Good morning, love." Alex spoke softly, closing her eyes again. The words flowing so effortlessly like water in a stream.
Lyric could feel her heart pounding as it nearly leapt out of her chest, she wondered if Alex was still drunk, or just sleep talking. "Um, good morning Alex." She replied awkwardly, laying closely beside her as their lips silently longed for their reunion.
Sunlight shined into the room through the window, the curtains opened slightly. There were so many things Lyric wanted to know that she didn't understand. It was like she was a completely different person now. Looking across the room and into the mirror of her vanity, Lyric could see her reflection. She could see that most of her make-up was worn off and smudged. She could see that her hair was a tangled mess. She could see her feminine body and much more things, but looking deeper, she could see through her eyes that she wasn't her body.
Of course, Lyric was a female and had always been identified as a female but at this very moment from where she laid beside Alex, she certainly did not feel female. Deep within her soul was something she didn't understand, how was it that she could look at herself and see a female but not feel like a female at all?
Lyric didn't want to think about it, she ignored the screams in her head and blocked out the noise as she closed her eyes. Slowly falling back into a deep sleep, she hoped that when she awoke her problems would disappear. Though she knew they wouldn't.
