AUTHOR'S POV
Adam sat up in bed, his heart still racing from the dream, the remnants of Sara's presence lingering in his thoughts like a phantom. The soft fluttering of his pulse, the warmth of the dream, and the delicate promise he had whispered to her-it all felt so real, as though she was right there with him. But now, in the cold light of reality, all he had were the echoes of his own thoughts and a deep longing that stirred in the pit of his chest.
He rubbed his eyes, trying to dispel the dream, but the feeling of her tremble, her softness, and the vulnerability that had unfolded between them refused to let go.
Sara...
"Bro Are you okay, you were literally kissing me in your sleep"?
Ayan's voice let him pull from his thoughts.
The room felt suffocating now, the voice of Ayan amplifying the weight of the truth that pressed down on him. His dream had been a fleeting glimpse into a future he didn't yet deserve, a future he wasn't sure was even possible. Was he fooling himself? Was it possible that someone as gentle, as beautiful as her could ever truly trust him enough to be his forever?
"Bro you are getting late"!
Ayan speaks again Interrupting his thoughts.
He glanced at the clock. It was nearly late .The quiet hum of the night had been replaced by the low murmur of the house waking up, but he couldn't shake the image of Sara, sitting on the edge of his bed, so real, yet so unreachable.
"Fuck off Ayan"
Murmuring,He swung his legs off the bed, letting his feet hit the cool wooden floor. Standing up, he walked to the window, pushing aside the heavy curtains as a faint morning light began to spill through the sky. The world outside seemed so still, so untouched by the chaos of his thoughts.
But deep inside, his mind was a whirlwind, the memory of her trembling in his arms, the sweetness of her soft breath against his chest. He could still feel the warmth of her skin, the delicate curve of her lips, and the way her body had responded to his touch, as though she wanted to lean into him, but was too afraid to allow herself.
Why was she pulling away? he wondered.
The thought lingered in his mind like a dark cloud. He wanted to understand her, to take away the pain that weighed so heavily on her heart. He knew she had suffered, but he also knew that her trust wasn't something that could be won overnight. No, he corrected himself, it couldn't be forced. It had to be earned.
And yet, there was something else. The warning Arhan had given him earlier that night still echoed in his ears.
"My sister has suffered a lot. She's been through heartbreak... Don't be the one who does it to her."
The words were still fresh, the gravity of them pressing on Adam's chest. He wasn't sure if Arhan realized just how deeply his warning had affected him. But he felt it now-an intense protectiveness, a desire to shield Sara from the world's cruelty, from anyone who might break her again. It wasn't just love that Adam was feeling. It was the need to preserve her, to keep her safe from all the scars that life had left on her heart.
Could I be the one to heal her? Adam wondered.
He knew Sara wasn't ready to let anyone in-not fully. But he also knew that he couldn't stop wanting to be the one she trusted, the one who would be there for her when she needed someone to lean on.
But there was a problem. She hadn't given him any indication that she saw him in the way he wanted her to. She hadn't let him in, not really.
His thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on his door.
