Part 10: the wrong idea

"I can't believe they're on that thing" Laurence gulped glancing up at the roller-coaster before them "they must be mad"

"Or stupid" kier mused as he stared at Laurence, trying his hardest to control the urge to fling his arms around him and declare his ever lasting love

"Are you calling my boyfriend stupid" Laurence laughed As he turned to face kier, a fake anger on his face

"Well he's definitely a special guy" kier giggled as Laurence promptly hit him with the cuddly panda. There was a silence for a moment as the two friends stared forward. Finally kier took a deep breath

"Do you think you two will be together forever?" He asked softly as he feared what the answer may be.

Laurence sighed and bit his lip

"I dunno mate" he said promptly lifting his hand to his mouth to chew his thumbnail as if deep in thought "we're still young and nobody knows what the future will be like. We just have to wait and see." There was another brief silence before Laurence breathed and smiled " I do love him though. I love him so much I couldn't begin to explain"

"I know you do" kier sighed as he rested his chin on his hands "maybe someday ill find someone who I feel that way for too"

"You will buddy" Laurence smiled turning and placing a hand on his best friend's shoulder "and when you do, I know that he will love you just as much as you love him"

Kier raised his head in shock. Did Laurence just say "him"? He looked at his best friend who remained smiling as if he was waiting for Kier's reaction.

"Wha...how did you, I mean.."

"How do I know you like guys?" Laurence finished Kier's sentence for him as kier felt his face turn red "kier, you're my best friend! I know you more than you know yourself, I know you're bi and I know you've had crushes on...certain people for a while now" Kier began to shake with nerves.

Did he know all along? Was this the over all rejection, the moment he had dreaded? The moment Laurence tells him he would never be his? He closed his eyes and awaited the verdict, but instead felt Laurence's arms wrap tightly around his shoulders, pulling him into the tightest of hugs

"I'm so sorry I've hurt you" Laurence cried out "if I'd known back then how you felt I would've at least talked to you about it"

"I.it's okay" kier stuttered, wishing the world would swallow him up right then "you two are the perfect couple anyway, I'll live..."

"No it's not ok" Laurence blurted out as he sat up with tears in his eyes "I hurt my best friend! I've been so selfish"

"Falling in love isn't being selfish" kier said smiling weakly "I'd rather you both be happy together than be miserable apart just for my sake"

Laurence sighed and placed his hand on top of Kier's as kier felt a whole shiver run down his spine as though Laurence had sent a spark right through his body.

"No matter what happens" Laurence said softly "we'll always be best friends. All four of us! And I promise someday you will find someone you'll love more than anything.... even more than you love drew..."

Kier looked up confused then a new kind of panic struck him as he realised Laurence wasn't only still blissfully unaware of his feelings for him but now apparently under the impression that kier was madly in love with his boyfriend. Still there was no going back now. If he questioned why Laurence thought he loved drew he would have to explain his whole reaction to him, admit his TRUE feelings. Defeated he sighed.

"Thank-you" he muttered as Laurence smiled once more and kier puffed and stared down at his shoes helplessly lost in yet another lie.
