"I. I got you something" shane said blushing as the three gathered around his bed at visiting time. it had been two days since he was brought in to the hospital and shane was still shaken up each time he saw the bruises and casts all over drew. he wished he could take all the pain away from him and make it all better again.
"you did?" drew smiled happily, propping himself up gently, gritting his teeth as he waited for the pain from his ribs to ease
"yeah" he said forcing a smile "I know it's silly but, I guess you could do with something to hug" blushing even more as he handed him a stuffed sheep toy. immediately drew's eyes lit up as he grabbed the sheep with his good arm and hugged it to him as tightly as he could withstand before the pain kicked in
"a sheep for wooly" he giggled softly "I love it shaney!" he placed it beside him and reached out, grabbing shane's hand "thank you!"
laurence glanced at their hands pressed together and sighed as he looked away with tired eyes. he had barely slept at all since the incident. he had stayed by drew's bed the whole time, silently crying to himself as he remembered drew's words. "I love you shaney" he heard drew say in his head as he sighed and tried his best to erase it from his memory. "stay strong laurence" he said to himself "no matter what happens, you can't leave him like this. he needs you"
"I got you something too mate" kier chirped happily. he was so relieved to see drew looking a little brighter that he couldn't conceal his smile. he passed him a bag full of sweets and drew cheered happily "I know hospital meals are a bit crap so I thought you might need something sweet to tide you by"
"you have no idea" drew laughed "this morning they served me toast that was so burnt a hammer wouldn't break it, AND it was cold"
"aw" kier giggled "well don't worry buddy, you'll be home soon i'm sure"
"the doctor said he could be home in a couple of days" laurence interupted rubbing his eyes
"I hope so" shane said softly squeezing drew's hand "I...I hate seeing you like this"
"aw shaney" drew said sadly as laurence gritted his teeth. "honestly i'll be fine! I may look weak but i'm a tough cookie really. besides I have my wooly sheep to help me pull though"
and as they smiled at each other, laurence felt his heart sink beneath his chest.
as promised, two days later drew was discharged from hospital. luckily, neither of his legs were broke so he could walk a little way, but the 2 fractured ribs caused him great pain and he got tired easily. he had no option but to be in a wheelchair for a few weeks.
as laurence helped drew's parents wheel him into the house, drew said nothing but smiled as he cuddled into the sheep shane had got him.
in the living room, his dad had set up a sofa bed so he didn't have to struggle up the stairs.
drew stared at the bed chewing his gum before turning his neck to look up at his mum
"hey mum" he said inquisitively "c.can the guys stay over here tonight? I don't really want to be alone right now"
"of course" his mum smiled before turning to laurence
"can you call kier and shane to come over, sweety" she asked as laurence gave a weak smile
"yeah, sure" he said sighing "I'll call kier right now and get him to come over. I'm going to go home and get a shower and a change of clothes but I'll be back, I promise"
"okay" drew nodded as he pulled himself from the chair to the sofa, groaning with the pain. hesitantly laurence walked over and kissed his hair before walking away.
