"Navia, Dr. Kim has arrived," my best friend and fellow doctor, Emily tells me. Her almond shaped eyes glint excitedly, while her 5' figure bounces up and down. I let out a childish "Yay!" I don't think either of us have really grown up.
Dr. Kim was one of the most reputed surgeons out there, and although our branch of hospitals was one of the most famous, I didn't think he'd relocate here.
Emily laughs. "He wants to meet everyone here. I was waiting for you to come so I wouldn't look like a loner."
"I would've done the same."
Together, we walk into his new office, which was across mine and next to Emily's. She shoves open the door before I can do anything, and yells, "Hi Dr. Kim!"
Dr. Kim looks at her, amused. "And who might you two be?" His accent is undeniably Korean, as my other best friend, an interior designer.
Emily giggles. Did I mention that she was an hopeless flirt sometimes. True, Dr. Kim looked around our age and rumor is that he's unmarried, but still. "I'm Emily Xu. She's my best friend," Emily motions towards me. "Navia Janga."
"Hey," I say meekly. I was never good around strangers - much less famous ones.
"You two are like the ultimate Asian group. And add me in, I say we're the Asian Trio - Indian, Chinese, and Korean."
Emily and I stare at each other, and say our automated response for whenever anyone comments on our race.
"How offensive, I'm Japanese!" Emily claims.
I feign hurt as I say, "I'm Pakistani!"
Dr. Kim stares at us. "And I'm Hojun Kim from North Korea and I will kill you all!"
We all laugh together and I like where this is heading.
"I guess we're the Asian Trio then, I guess," I say. "But is you're name really Hojun Kim?" I ask.
"Yes," Hojun says looking at me skeptically.
I laugh. Emily and I then blurt out what was on our minds, "You aren't related to Jiyoon Kim by any chance, are you?"
Hojun looks at us weird. "How do you know by older sister?"
"She's our friend, and has been since middle school," I explain. "Oppa, we've figured out you're secret identity. Does Sang Sang ring any bells?" I laugh mischievously.
Wow, I'm already teasing him about his childhood stuffed animal that his sister may or may not have told me about.
"I'm so killing Jiyoon," he mutters.
A/N:
The more tragic/sad stuff is coming up!!!
BTW, I'm sorta basing this off of my friends at my International School, but I changed their names! I kept their first names but changed their last names...
