Tom's excited announcement startled Mr. Damon and the others as much as if the young inventor had informed them that the airship had exploded and was about to clash.
Seeing all this fear, Tom tried to work on Damon Swift's fears, amd frighten him by using his airship in this quest.
And so, he suggested Mr. Jenks, " If Damon has a gun, it won't be too easy to go into the storeroom, and drag him out." They went softly into the storeroom, and listen at the door.
" We caught him! " cried the scientist.
"Anybody hurt?" Tom asked anxiously.
"Damon was found with diamond makers," Mr. Jenks said. Then Tom, Jenks andthe scientist took Damon to a secret cave and tied him with ropes. Then Damon laughed cunningly and said, "I was to destroy the airship. Three days later, I crossed over a lonely region, near the Nebraska National Forest. You will never discover the secret of Phantom Mountain!"
"Yes, we will," declared Tom, as ge sent the Red Cloud high into the air again.
