Chapter Eight of Vulnerable
◘ Vlain's Point of View ◘
I arrived at home at 8. The family's eating dinner already.
"Son, join us here," my dad invited. I adjusted my tie and unbuttoned one of the buttons of my long sleeve.
"I'm just going to change clothes," I answered and went into my room upstairs.
I placed my things on my study table. I changed in my pair of Black pajamas and head down.I sat beside my mom because my older sister always sit beside my dad and my oldest brother sits beside me.
"Your college friend called here at 7. I said you weren't home yet," mom informed. Oh sheez, I completely forgot!
"Oh shoot it. I forgot about the sleepover. I had to finish checking and computing the grades because it should be submitted by tomorrow that's why I came home late," I said.
"I thought you have your student assistant?" Janella, my sister asked.
"Well yeah," I answered glumly. "She escaped when I told her to make me a coffee," I continued.
My brother laughed. "That girl really hates you, dude!"
I scowled when her face flashed in my mind.
"That girl is so much to handle, dad," I said as I shook my head. "She never listens to me, follows no one. She has her own rules," I continued.
"Then why can't you find another assistant?" my sister asked.
"I can't, I made a deal in front of her parents and the Dean," I answered.
"Yeah besides, I chose her as your student assistant," dad blurted.
Dad is the owner of the university, that's why. But no one in the university has to know that I'm the son of the owner.
"You did?!" I asked, bewildered. "Dad, you know I hate her guts, I hate everything about her. She's a rebel," I protested.
Dad smiled at me in a silly way. "That's one of the reasons why I chose her to be your student assistant," he said, proud of what he's done.
"I can't believe you did that, dad. I thought you understand me," I muttered.
He smiled again in a way that annoyed me. "That's why I chose her because I understand you," he stood up as he finished the food. "You'll thank me afterwards, son," he patted me on the shoulder.
I sighed. Why's dad still so mysterious to me?
I turned to Janella and my brother. They just shrugged. My mom just turned her gaze on her food. Ugh. What a great family I have.
I finished my food and went upstairs to sleep.
◘
The next day, I woke up with the sound of my mom's voice waking me up.
"Son get up. Don't you make me pour a cold pail of water on you!" she exclaimed.
"5 minutes, mother," I begged. She pulled the covers off me. "Mom I'm up," I said groggily.
"Good," she said and left me. I went in the shower then after that, I changed in to my suit. I went downstairs.
"Hey I'm going off already," I informed them as I walked directly in the garage. I decided to drive Justice, my Black Lexus.
I
actually don't know how excited my body or senses is waking up every morning knowing that I'm going to deal with an obnoxious student.
Maybe she's got no attention at all, or she's lonely. How can I help a mentally challenged girl whose sarcasm is infinite?
I parked my car next to Reagan's Sentra.
"Hey bud," Adrian greeted while walking towards me.
"Hey Ad," I greeted back. He offered me a drink. "Thanks."
"So how's the morning?" he asked. I looked at him oddly. "What do you mean?" I asked.
"Encountered any aliens from this school already?" he asked/answered.
"By that you mean, your mentally challenged cousin?" I asked while grinning.
"Oh yes," he chuckled. Adrian being Adrian, tapped me on my head. He's been doing this for who knows how long. We're best friends since high school.
"Well, I haven't seen her yet," I informed. A smile formed across his face.
"Were you trying to find her?" he asked cheekily.
I backed away with shock. "Whoa buddy I don't like your tone," I narrowed my eyes at him. "Darian's out of my type."
"Oh please, you know how it is against the law. No matter how I am extremely happy seeing you guys fight," -- okay, that seemed a little creepy--"but I won't bail you out of jail if that happens...or rather if I can bail you out," he continued while shrugging his shoulders.
I stopped right in track and faced him. I looked at him and sighed. This guy in front of me didn't change after all. He always think full of malice.
"I know we are friends since high school but I'm sorry I don't like your cousin like that," I admitted.
He put on a silly smile. "Like what?" he asked.
"Y'know what?" I asked while shaking my head. "You're insane."
I left him standing on the corridor. I don't get how mentally challenged those cousins are. Well, Adrian's been like that since high school -- or maybe he'd been worse...I just...don't get them anymore.
