Haibara hadn't left his side after that day, and at some point she became a glorified baby sitter despite being the same (physical) age. Shinichi definitely knew who she really was, and she never bothered hiding her maturity around him and the rest of the Detective Boys.

Though he doesn't remember her being this cold... It reminded him of the fact that this was a newly shrunk Miyano Shiho. He wasn't even sure if she really is Shiho, or she's just like him, and the real Miyano Shiho is still within the organization.

She also might not know who he was or his original state, but it didn't change the fact that they get under each other's skin.

All these facts were making his head hurt.

"You snitch." He hissed.

Being in the same space as Haibara only amplified the shame he felt for failing in his promises to her.

Haibara only rolled her eyes, "Look, even if you really are as smart as your brother, you shouldn't sneak out of class." she said as she sat down the picnic blanket they set up in Agasa-hakase's lawn.

Conan's expression turned wry. He needed space to process what just happened in the span of a month, and he couldn't do that when she's practically beside him everyday in class. Besides, Shinichi was a skipper. That much hadn't changed, Conan didn't have to be him to know this. The teen practically jumps on the first case he sees.

Genta groaned, "Here they go again."

The other two sighed before all three left the two of them to go back inside hakase's house.

Conan kicked his soccer ball to the wall, and the ball bounced back to him, "I am perfectly capable of taking care of my grades thanks."

She just peeled the orange she was holding with half lidded eyes, "Clearly."

Conan's eyebrow twitched and he kicked the ball too hard, making it fly off when it bounced back.

"What is it with adults and their know it all attitude?!" He cried in frustration. He heard the front door open and close.

Haibara scoffed, "You're one to talk."

Conan outwardly glared at her, though internally he winced.

The kids gave them a quizzical look as they came back with chips and juice boxes.

"Conan, who are you talking about?" Mitsuhiko asked.

Conan gritted his teeth, "No one." he grounded out before he walked away from the group and towards his house.

"Conan-kun! We haven't played yet!" Ayumi called.

"Play without me!" He yelled back. The kids' complaints went to deaf ears.

He opened the gates of the Kudo mansion, went into the property and closed it before continuing to walk down to the front door.

His incapability of protecting her and everyone who helped him take down the organization was what made him skip class.

He didn't need to be reminded of what he lost. He didn't need to be reminded of his failures. He couldn't look at Haibara without somehow thinking about her death.

Conan went straight to his bedroom. He picked up his KID plush and then he went back down to the living room to watch the news. Shinichi was off to who knows where because it was a weekend, though Conan guessed it was another murder case.

"...Today in Tokyo..."

Maybe if he wasn't so reckless in approaching the Black Org, then everything would be the same. Countless of times he heeds Haibara's warning, and countless of times he proved her wrong about him getting killed. Conan proved that she could trust him, and he'd give her protection. He did, for a while... But he was still a teenager in mind and heart.
