"Oh c'mon how bad can it really be?" Alyssa turned to you and gave her best 'you'll be fine' look.

"Well lets see... Jason broke up with me on Wednesday, today is FRIDAY and I am being dragged to a party that he is hosting. Hm. You're right... WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!" You put on your classic. sass face and crossed your arms in an attempt to look mad. The truth was, you weren't mad. Not even a little. You were just hurt. Hurt because Jason broke up with you out of nowhere, without giving you a reason. Hurt because you were left wondering what you did wrong. Hurt because now you had to face him, and you didn't even know what the problem was that you were facing. Hurt. Hurt swirled around you like snow flurries in a sharp winter's wind. But you couldn't show it. So you jutted out your hip and continued pretending to be annoyed at your poor best friend.

"Y/n... I know. I'm sorry that Jason sucks but the thing is, you can't let that jerk stop you from having fun! You deserve to have fun! We are going to this party and you are going to have the time of your life!" Alyssa pulled her lips up into a huge smile and you couldn't help but break your act and grin back. She was right! You couldn't let one jerk ruin your chances to have fun! You felt your entire being lighten and you turned on your heel and marched toward the door. You were going to have fun. You were determined.

You put your hand on the cold brass knob you'd turned so many times before. It seemed colder now, as if some of Jason's soul had seeped into it. The confidence you had felt just a moment ago seemed to be sucked into the cold know, warming it. The music inside the house was so loud you could feel the vibrations through the knob. You took a deep breath and opened the door.

The house was like an explosion of music and lights. It was your typical, cliché teenage party. The living room was packed with people dancing and jumping around. Most had red solo cups in their hands that you could only guess had been spiked with vodka.

Alyssa walked in right behind you and grinned. "Awesome" she muttered.

"Okay so do you want to dance or get drinks first?" Alyssa shouted over the music.

"Drinks!" You yelled back. You weren't in the mood for alcohol tonight so you figured you would find some lemonade or punch.

You followed Alyssa through the mob of dancers. It was kind of fascinating how they all seemed to pulse together.

You arrived in the back near the kitchen where a table had been set up with an array of cups and drinks. A group of people stood just to the right of the table. They just kind of stood there, sipping punch and talking. You could tell from the sillhouettes that it was 2 boys and 4 girls but you couldn't distinguish any features due to the crazy lighting.

You turned around and poured what you hoped was lemonade into two glasses and handed one to Alyssa.

"Thanks" Alyssa said, bringing the cheap plastic cup to her lips. "So far no sign of Jason. Thats good right?"

You could tell she was trying to lift your spirits. You weren't in the mood to be all sappy and tell her how you really felt about it, so you pushed the hurt down and managed a half smile. "Its great actually." You crossed your fingers that she wouldn't be able to tell the smile was fake because it was so dark.

Out of nowhere, a boy sauntered over to the table and held out his hand to Alyssa. "Would you like to dance?" The edge of his voice slurred a little but he seemed mostly sober. You didn't recognize him but his hair was so honey blond that bees would be jealous.

"Will you be okay?" Alyssa asked. You could tell just from the look on her face that she wanted to dance with him. She was just one of those people. She attracted guys. Her romances usually burned bright then burnt out and she liked it that way.

"Yeah yeah I'll be fine." You felt a wave of anxiety wash over you at the prospect of standing alone with no one to talk to but you didn't want to hold Alyssa back from having a good time. You pasted on your best convincing smile and nodded. Alyssa slipped her hand into the boys and they walked away to join the dancing.

'This is just great' you though as you leaned against the table. Your eyes scanned the house as you tried to pinpoint someone standing alone who you could talk to but you didn't see anyone.

You turned around awkwardly and poured some more lemonade to look busy. Suddenly you felt a tap on your shoulder. You jumped splashing lemonade over the edge of your cup. You heard a chuckle from behind you and you slowly turned around to find out who would possibly have come up to you.

Your head was facing the floor when you turned so all you noticed were his shoes. They were your typical boy sneakers. You raised your eyes a little higher. He wore a plain gray tee shirt with a red plaid shirt, unbuttoned, over top. You could already tell he was hot and you hadn't even looked at his face yet.
