More memories flooded my mind.
I watched the scene unfold before me.
Two young children kneeled in the room before me. Instead of being dim and full of fear, the room was well lit, an air of anticipation engulfing everything. An Elder placed a necklace in each child's trembling, outstretched hands. One was a girl and one was a boy, both so excited that they would not stop fidgeting. The Elder murmured something, an incantation of some sort that sent chills down my spine. I translated the words in my mind, "Let them glow, let them shine, let them be" he had said. To my surprise, the girl and boy were lifted off the ground my a powerful wind and a blinding flash of light erupted from their clenched fists, where they grasped their necklaces. I shielded my eyes as a powerful blast rocked the ground. When I removed my hand from covering my eyes, the girl was dressed in a shimmering golden gown with a crystal tiara perched on her head. The boy was dressed just as prestigiously. He was dressed in a silver suit and a silver crown rested on his jet black hair. I recognized the pair now as they squealed at their outfits and pranced around the room.
The black haired boy with the grey eyes and the brunette with sparkling green eyes. The twins. It was my brother and me.
"Princess of Light and Prince of darkness." My brother spoke as I spotted him step out of the shadows and the vision fade away. The same voice that had spoken to me that very morning.
"Don't you dare touch her!" Xander's voice echoed through the room, threatening the figure in front us to move as he stepped in front of me in a protective gesture.
My brother just laughed, walking towards us.
"Earnest, don't do anything to Xander, okay? He won't do anything to you." I put one of my hands out and grabbed Xander with the other. He spun to look at me, as if to ask 'how do you know his name?' I didn't know how either.
Earnest smiled warmly, "I won't hurt him and you know it, sister dearest." I narrowed my eyes at him but let Xander go. He was my brother, but he was still a stranger.
Earnest, noticing my hesitation, started to laugh. It was an infectious sound and soon I found myself laughing along. But eventually, that laughter turned to tears as we rushed to embrace each other.
It was too much and it had been too long. Earnest patted me as I buried my face in his chest. He a head taller than me now. I remembered what it was like seeing him leave that day. Even though I had not realized I had those memories until that morning, years of sorrow took over me as I broke down in my brother's arms.
