Knowing how to fly now, I took to the skies, enjoying the beautiful view of my world. The crystal castle I lived in sparkled just beyond the horizon. The trees of the Forbidden Forest swaying to in the wind below me. It truly was a dazzling, otherworldly place.
I landed on the golden steps of the palace, changing back into my human form. I scanned my surroundings, making sure no one had seen me. I was safe. I felt fairly giddy, walking up the steps, everything I had seen finally sinking in. The rumours were true! "The boy who flew" was my brother, but he was gone.
A voice inside my head, a male voice I did not recognise, whispered, "The truth can never be erased, it can only be changed by creating the illusion that it was never real in the first place, by making people disbelieve."
The reality of the situation suddenly hit me, and I stared at the tattoo on my hand. My mother would see, and I would be taken away like my brother. I concealed the necklace with the scarf that was tied around my waist, but how was I to hide the tattoo.
The voice in my mind spoke again. "Will it to disappear. It will be gone." I did as I was told and expressed my desire for the tattoo to be invisible. It faded away as I watched, open mouthed.
"Who are you?" I growled, spinning around. A silver griffin was perched on the crystal gate behind me.
The voice filled my head again. "You should know, my dearest sister."
With that, the Griffin flew away, leaving me stunned as I stared at the place it had been before.
"My...brother?"
