"Mom died today."
I sit at Butters grave. It's been two years now.
"She O.D.ed... she's going to Hell, unlike you, and unlike me." I say. "Next time I die will be the last time... I feel it... I can't wait to see you, Butters. It's been too long." I smile as I pat the stone. "I'll see you soon, baby." I blow the grave a kiss as I get up and walk away to go to church. Gary stands at the gate of the cemetery, waiting for me to finish my daily visit. We walk to the Mormon church together.
I actually did end up believing what Mormons did. I follow their rules and I like this lifestlye a whole lot more than my previous one. I confessed all my sins and I started feeling happier with my life again.
I also hang out with Gary a lot more than anyone else. He teaches me everything I need to know, and he let's me and Karen stay at his house to get away from the madness at our own. Karen goes to church with us sometimes, but she's usually too shaken by memories of Cartman and what happened to Butters and what she saw to do much of anything.
After church, Gary invites me over and I ask to bring Karen with us. He allows it and I run home.
"Karen, we're going over to Gary's again." I say, going inside her room. She looks up and smiles.
"Thank god. Kevin and dad have been yelling all day. I shoulda come with you to church." She says, getting up and walking to me. I hold her hand as we rush through the house and walk down the sidewalk to Gary's house. When we reach the house, we're immediately greated by his smiling face.
"Hey guys! Mom just finished making brownies. You two want some?" We both smile desperately and go inside.
Gary's mom gives us some brownies and we go to Gary's room. "I heard about your mother. Sory for your loss." He tells us. I nod, but I hear Karen scoff.
"She didn't care about us anyways. She was much better than dad, but only when she noticed us. I'm not glad she's gone, but I wasn't glad when she was here." She says. Gary exhales, sort of sad.
"It's a shame that family's are like that now a days." He says.
I nod. "Yeah..."
"I don't really like dad or Kevin. Honestly, Kenny, you're the only one I do like in the family." I smile.
"The feeling's mutual." I tells her.
Gary looks at me. "Don't you have an older brother?" He asks us. I nod.
"I lost any respect I might've had for him when he got as drunk as dad and hit us."
His eyes widen. "That's terrible, Kenny! He really did that??" I see how upset he's getting and simply nod with saying anything more. "Well if you ever need anything, either of you, the whole house is willing to help." He says. I smile at him and thank him.
Karen does too."Can we stay over tonight?" Karen abruptly asks. I look at her, about to tell her thay we don't invite ourselves over to people's houses, but Gary speaks up.
"Of course. We all love having you both here." I sigh and thank him. He's done a lot for us already. He's kept us here when we need, gives us food, even buys us clothes.
Our families are polar opposites. Karen and I are McCormick's, and the line of family before us is the same: the man grows up a drunk, makes meth for a living until he gets a family, and gets a family by banging a girl when she's sixteen. The only good part about it is he doesn't abandon her or breaks her heart. I'm leaving that life to Kevin.
Gary and his siblings, on the other hand, all care for each other and their parents love them and each other. They're kind people who care about everyone and they're always willing to give a hand to anyone.
