After the party Sarah went to her room and turned on loud music. I laughed when I went to tell her that we were going to bed. She was dancing around and singing. I looked at her and thought about my old life, the life that at one point I was so eager to go back to. But I knew that I would rather be here. I’d go through all of that pain again if it meant I could live in this present; but I already had my present. Our son was growing inside of me and our adopted daughter was probably talking to her boyfriend. Vincent was outside in the garden looking for something. I was walking about in the entry hall, just looking at the new flowers the slaves put on the tables.
I placed my left hand on my stomach. I could feel a little bump in it. I smiled at the thought. He was so small, but I was only a few months pregnant. As I was thinking of silly names for him I heard a rather soft knock at the door. No one else was around to hear it, so I opened it slowly. A thin girl about my height, with huge, teased, dark burgundy hair, stood in front of me. She was very pale, so I instantly knew she was a vampire. She was devastatingly beautiful, that much was obvious. Her bangs seemed to never end. I looked at her outfit now. She had dark grey skinny jeans on with a bright pink t-shirt. Over the t-shirt was a black vest. Her shoes were bright pink sperrys.
“Hello, may I help you?” I asked her.
“Yeah. I’m looking for Vincent,” she replied in a stuck up voice.
“Who are you?” I asked her curiously.
“I’m Krey and who the hell are you?” For a minute I couldn’t help but think he had cheated on me. For a minute I couldn’t help but let my whole world fall to pieces. For a minute my perfect life was over.
“I’m Lucia, his wife,” I said in the same tone she used.
“Oh I’m so sorry! I thought you were a bitch slave. I’m his old friend Krey. It’s nice to meet you!” she said with a smile on her face as she stretched out her right hand to take mine. I noticed she has five stars tattooed across her wrist.
“It’s nice to meet you as well. Vincent is out in the garden. Do you want to wait inside or shall we go find him?” I asked, secretly hoping she would pick to go and find him.
“I have to catch a flight to Queate tonight, so let’s go ahead and get him,” she said as she came in.
“So how do you and Vincent know each other?” I asked Krey as we walked to the garden.
“We had a common friend, but that friend is no longer alive, so every few years I come visit him,” she explained.
“I’m sorry for your loss,” I told her truthfully.
“Thank you for your condolences. I hear you’re pregnant?” she asked and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Yes, it’s a boy,” I told her.
“Congratulations, I know you’ll both be great parents,” her smile was evident as well.
“Thank you, it means a lot.” And that was all we had time to say, for we had found Vincent in the garden.
“Long time no see, Vincent!” Krey screamed running to punch him in the arm.
“Krey! Has it been ten years already?” Vincent replied.
“Yep!” she said, popping her p.
“How have you been?” Vincent asked.
“I’m great! I’ve been spending time in the human world. And to think I come back to find you’re married and expecting a child!”
“I’m also a king now. And this,” he said walking over to put his arm around me, “is my beautiful queen, Lucia.”
“I’ve noticed. I approve of her greatly,” Krey said.
“Thank you. That really means a lot to me,” I told her.
“You’re welcome. So how did you two meet?” she asked.
“I bought her at an auction,” Vincent laughed, squeezing my side softly.
“So you bought her to marry her?” she giggled, tossing her long hair to the side.
“No. I was pretty rough on her at the beginning. I beat her weakly, and then one day I realized how much I truly loved her, and surprisingly enough she loved me back. So eventually I turned her and married her,” Vincent finished. He then leaned down to kiss me on the head.
“That’s cute,” I saw her cringe silently, but the smile was still on her face.
“Are you staying here for long?” Vincent asked her.
“No. I can’t afford to stay here, but I’d love to. This place is the most beautiful place in any world,” she smiled. I’m not sure what possessed me to ask, maybe it was a connection I felt with her, but I did ask.
“Why don’t you just live here? This place is huge and it’d be nice having another female vampire here my age,” I asked. I looked up at Vincent making sure he was okay with it. He smiled down at me.
“Really?” I could see her eyes light up.
“Of course. It’d be really nice. Vincent here isn’t very good at decorating and our children both need room make-overs,” I laughed to myself.
“That’d be great! And you don’t mind, Vincent?”
“Not at all. I told you before that you’re like a little sister to me. Feel free to stay here for forever if you’d like. Just try to be nice to Sarah and Gren, and of course Lucia,” he answered.
“Of course I will. Thank you so much!” she smiled and ran to hug both of us.
