We stayed like that for a long time, while Krey cried. Vincent and I cried too. I had known Krey a short period of time, but I already felt like she was a part of the family. She was like my sister, and I loved her. To see her in this much pain bothered me immensely.
She wiped her eyes and looked up at Vincent with admiration, and then she spoke, “I didn’t tell you everything.”
“What else is there, Krey?” Vincent asked in a gentle voice, as if he would break her with the wrong tone.
“Do you remember after Daeman died how we got really close? You helped me through everything and reminded me that I still had something to live for. You were there for me. We became best friends. You took care of me. You made sure I fed and slept. You made sure I didn’t harm myself and you tried to make me better. You remember don’t you?” she asked Vincent.
He nodded and then said, “Yes, I remember. I took care of you like I took care of Sarah. What happened?”
“Well remember how you met Blaire?” Krey asked him.
“Yes, I remember,” he said with a look of distain on his face.
“You left with her,” she said calmly.
“No, Krey. She said that you told her that we should go, that you were fine,” Vincent’s voice was getting upset, but not with Krey.
“No I never told her that. I told her that you were my best friend and I would be dead if you weren’t there,” she said, voice still calm.
Even though I didn’t know the whole situation I already knew that Blaire had been trying to kill Krey, and judging by Vincent’s look, he did as well. Was she so threatened by their friendship that she needed her out of the way? “I’m so sorry, Krey. I shouldn’t have listened to her. I feel like an idiot,” he said sadly.
“Well after you left, things went downhill,” she said.
Vincent didn’t answer, but let her finish speaking.
“I started feeding from myself...and then I started cutting myself. Sometimes I wouldn’t stop for days because it just kept healing. But I was too weak for it not to scar.”
Sadness spread across Vincent’s face, “I know, Krey. I’m sorry. Don’t you remember me visiting you in the hospital? I stayed around until you got out.”
“No, I don’t remember any part of the hospital except the strait jacket.”
“I stayed until you were better, but I had to go back to Blaire. I thought she needed me.”
“After you left again things got worse. I started hurting myself more. Kain had me locked up again. I stayed in there until I couldn’t feel anything anymore.” Krey said.
“I’m so sorry. I had heard that you were had to return to the hospital, but I didn’t think that it was true. I thought you were okay, you seemed better while I was there. I wish someone would have called me,” he shook his head sadly.
“They said Blaire had made it clear that she didn’t approve of us. That you didn’t either anymore,” she remembered.
