The boy shifted about with his feet in discomfort upon realizing someone had been watching him. He opened his mouth as if he was about to speak, but then closed it. He stared at me in wonder across the river.
'Hi,' I greeted quietly.
'Hello,' he responded. I could tell he was nervous.
'What's your name?'
'My-'
He was cut off by a stick crunching nearby.
Oh no, I thought. If anyone catches us like this, we'll be dead within minutes!
To my, and probably his too, great relief, it was a a rabbit of some sort making the noise.
We just stood there looking at each other for a few minutes. I decided to break the silence.
'So, my name is Merida, in case you were wondering,' I noted awkwardly.
'What? Oh yes... What a nice name...'
I blushed at his remark.
'And you are...?'
'Pardon? Oh yes, I'm Jeremy, merchant's son.'
'MERIDAAAAAAAA!' a voice yelled.
'Well, if you'll excuse me, I'm afraid I need to go, mother's calling.'
I sprinted across the meadow, looking back at Jeremy. At that moment, I knew that Jeremy was more than just a merchant's son to me.
