Wow! I just realized I have over 600 reads on this story! That's amazing!
Also, sorry for my inactivity, I've been taking a break from wattpad. Now I'm back though, and I'll be updating much more frequently!
---Panting, Madi and I stumbled down the path to the bridge and collapse lf on the floor. I slumped down and rested my back against the wall and exhaled deeply. Madi's heavy breaths soon transformed into whimpers and sobs.
'Shh, it's okay.' I wrapped one of my arms around her small frame and ran my fingers through her hair with the other.
She sobbed. 'What do we do now?'
I paused. I could have said what I wanted to say and told her that I had no idea, but I reminded myself that I had to stay strong for her. 'I know a place deep in the woods that no one knows about, apart from me and Jeremy. Jeremy and I have agreed that that's where we're to find each other if anything seems out of place. We can go there and Jeremy will find us tomorrow morning and maybe stay with us. Sound good?'
Madi nodded and leaned closer against my arm. For the next, few minutes, all I could hear were birds chirping in the distance, the calming whispers of the barley meadow, the gentle trickling of the stream and Madi's less and less frequent sniffles.
'We should leave now, before it gets dark,' I suggested. We left and started trekking into the forest.
