It was a warm July morning, the day of my fifteenth birthday. I stumbled down the small dirt path I had been walking down every day since the age of eleven.
As always, Jeremy stood under the bridge in the shallows of the river, waiting for me to come.
'Happy Birthday Merida!' he congratulated, pulling me into a bone-crushing hug.
'You remembered!' I placed my hands on his shoulders and put a surprised look on my face.
'Well, of course!'
'Yeah, and you always remember everything.' I rolled my eyes.
In response, pushed me gently so I fell into the ice-cold river. Sitting up, I gasped and spluttered,
'You did not just-' I started, and finished off by yanking his leg, so he fell in too. Being the type of boy to have revenge for every little thing, I knew he would come after me so I sprinted to the opening of our secret tunnel. I crawled as fast as my knees and arms could carry me. I approached the other end and exited the tunnel, climbing the nearest tree. I gradually became closer to the top of the tree. The view was beautiful!
'Well hello there,' a voice said from behind me.
I turned my head to see Jeremy standing right next to me.
'Goodness, Jeremy, you scared me!'
'Aren't surprises part of  a perfect birthday?'
'I guess they are, then.'
He smiled at me and I smiled back.
Suddenly, I heard hooves approaching.
I motioned Jeremy to squat down. A Vendola guard was chasing a small girl that appeared to be... My sister.
