The rest of the holiday passed in a blur. Cress recovered from the full moon, feeling as run-down as she usually did but a bit cheerier having what felt like three loving parents caring for her. To her relief, none of the others seemed to care about her "furry little problem". They had welcomed her with open arms, and she spent many hours with Harry and Charlotte, bonding over their weird circumstances. As annoyed as they all were with their fathers, they couldn't deny the closeness it brought to them.
To their credit, James and Sirius were being very grown up about the situation. They spent lots of time with the kids, sharing stories and trying to make up for all of the lost time. By the time they got on the train back to Hogwarts, they felt like they knew the whole story of the Marauders.
"We have to talk to Tyler." Charlotte said seriously once they were reunited with Hermione (who had been filled in on all the goings on by owl) and settled into a carriage.
"Ew, no." Said Ron, "Slytherins are evil, everyone knows that."
Charlotte scowled at him and opened her mouth to retort, but Cress beat her to it.
"Nobody's inherently evil." She said softly, "I know that more than most."
"You're right, Cress." Harry said firmly, "And so's Char. Just because Tyler's dad's evil, doesn't mean that he is. He deserves a chance to know about his dad."
Ron opened his mouth to respond, but was cut off by a burst of squeaking from Scabbers.
"Shush, you stupid rat!" He exclaimed. Scabbers did not comply, and simply got louder. Hermione winced and covered her ears.
"Please take him out, Ronald. That noise is atrocious."
Ron couldn't argue with this, and hurried out to the corridor. The squeaking quickly faded away.
"How bizarre." Said Crescent thoughtfully. The others exchanged a confused look, but it was clear the girl wasn't going to follow up on this.
"So, back to business." Charlotte said firmly, "I'm still friends with Serena and Draco. I'll set up a meeting with Tyler."
"Do you want me and Ron to stay away?" Hermione asked softly, aware that the other three were in a very unique situation.
"No." Said all three at once. They laughed, and Charlotte continued, "Our parents don't define us."
"As far as I'm concerned, we're all like a family now." Said Harry, "We're not leaving anybody out."
"All for one and one for all." Grinned Cress.
