Chapter 5

A year later....
Alyssa and I have been engaged for 6 months now.
It was Greys annual BBQ today so we were all up and ready to go.
" daddy look what I made!" T yelled as I came downstairs. She was baking with Ally in the kitchen.
" very nice. T can I talk to you for a minute?"
T followed me up to her room. We moved a couple months ago to a bigger house on an isolated land so we could have a big yard.
" okay I need to make sure that you know that I still love your mommy very much and that I miss her and think about her everyday and that I would never try to replace her."
" I know."
" that I love Ally more than anything and I want her to be your new mommy."
" daddy it's okay. Uncle Eric and uncle Jesse and uncle Justin all talked to me and told what was going on. Even uncle pat and uncle joe face timed me the other day."
" they did?"
" yes. I get it daddy. It's called moving on and moving forward. They said you were happy and I can tell. So I'm happy. I love Ally. I want her to be my new mommy."
" T you are growing up too fast."
" dad I'm only 6"
" I know. But still. Love you kiddo."
" love you daddy."
And she ran back downstairs. We got into the car and headed towards the park.
" heyyy look who it is!" Eric yelled. He gave me a hug and the girls a hug and a kiss.
" here have one of these." Jesse said and threw me a beer.
Sarah had started to talk to Alyssa so I was hanging out with the guys.
" ready for the wedding?" Justin asked
" not even close, she's just begun the freaking out stage."
" I remember that. I just stayed out of the way." Jesse said
" not to ruin your sweet little story here..." We all started to laugh " but I do remember you sending the photographer to the wrong location if I'm correct." Eric said
" I don't know what you're talking about." Jesse said
" I do." I said
And we continued to drink a beer. When we were cooking the dinner the girls came over.
" how was bonding time?" I asked kissing her on the forehead.
" we have a lot of things to go over before the wedding pat."
" okay so we will, thanks guys." I said sarcastically. They all laughed.
T came running over.
" T what's wrong?" I asked
" Ellie wants to go get ice cream can I?" She asked jumping up and down.
" no sweetie you know the rules no ice cream before dinner." I said and she got sad
" cmon pat is it really that big of a deal?" Ellen asked
" yeah it is actually. You for one should know that." I said and she rolled her eyes and walked away.
" what's her deal?" Alyssa asked
" no idea." I said but I truly did.
" got talk to her."
" no she needs alone time."
She pulled me to the side.
" what are you doing? I asked
" she's your best friend. You don't just throw that all away."
" she wants us to be together. That's why she's mad. Because I said no to me and her being together. I told her I didn't want it and she got mad."
" oh."
" don't be mad."
" I'm not. But you do need to go talk to her."
I nodded and went to the trailer and walked in.
" you can't hide in here all day." I said
" I can if I want to."
" what happened to us huh? I say that I don't want to be with you and we end things just like that? You're happily married and I'm happily engaged. We wanted this for each other. To be happy...." She cut me off
" I said I wanted us to be happy together."
" Ellen, I can't. You know I can't. If Jill was still alive and we were married would you be asking me to divorce her?"
She sat there in silence.
" exactly,listen things won't work out between us. You just have to see that. I want to be friends Ellen. I want things back to the normal. So come outside and sit with us."
" maybe later."
I sighed and kissed her on the head and walked out where T jumped into my arms. Alyssa came over.
" you talk to her?"
" yeah all good."
" good." And I kissed her. I decided to call Chris.

C: hello?
P: hey Chris its pat
C: hey pat what's going on?
P: are you coming to the annual picnic?
C: oh, you didn't hear?
P: no.
C: Ellen and I are going through a divorce right now. I thought she was cheating on me with you but then I heard that you were engaged and I let it go and then she confessed about her feelings one night saying you didn't feel the same way back.
P: wait what?
C: congrats on the engagement bud you deserve it
P: thanks
C: alright I'll see you around
P: yeah bye
And I hung up the phone. I went up to Eric and the guys
" why did none of you tell me that Ellen was going through a divorce?!" I gritted through my teeth.
They all stood there quiet. I walked back into the trailer.
" you and Chris are getting a divorce?"
" what? Where did you hear that from?"
" Chris. I called him."
" you shouldn't have done that."
" I'm glad I did."
She just sat there
" Ellen what are we going to do?"
" nothing we are doing nothing. You are getting married."
" i am."
" end of story. I'll find somebody."
" Ellen..."
" can you just get out."
" this is my trailer too."
" then I'll go." She said and walked out.
"ELLEN!" I yelled after her and everyone was staring.
Ally looked at me to say ' what's going on?'
I followed Ellen to the car.
" pat stop following me." She called out. I stopped dead in my tracks.
" I'm sorry."
" goodbye pat." She opened up the car door but I shut it.
" WHAT THE HELL!"
" I'm sorry okay? I'm sorry. This isn't how we were supposed to be. The chemistry didn't wonder off set the way it did for you. I realize that now. What happened to us? We used to be so happy. It used to be you and me against the world. Now we're standing on opposite sides and we can't even talk to each other because we don't know what's happening on each others sides. If you wanna leave Ellen I'm not going to stop you. But I'm not gonna leave you all alone on that island by yourself. That's just not happening. So go if you want to. But I'll be back."
I walked away and went back to the party.
" get through to her?" Ally asked
" I don't know." I said and kissed her head " cmon lets go home."
She nodded.
" cmon T we're going!" I yelled
" pat! Wait I'm really sorry we didn't tell you." Jesse said
" you should be." I said and we walked into the car and piled in and drove home.
I texted Ellen.
