Dani's POV
In this grey brick hallway, echoed with screams from people in a completely separate room, I can hear my loud heart beat. With each forceful pluse, my veins bounced up and down. The timing was nearly synchronized. I felt like my heart could be seen beating through my skin. My instincts were telling me to flee, but my heart is telling me that I need to do this. My thumbs started dancing around each other in an endless tango. My nerves can't get the best of me. Not now.
"Five minutes," my guide told me. He looked about twenty-five, and he had light emerald colored eyes. He seemed . . . average. His glances toward me were irritating, but also soothing. Maybe I was going insane.
My lungs inflated as I closed my eyes. With every deep breath, my heart rate slowed, and my nerves were no longer spastic. I'll never get used to this. The jittery-ness, the hard pounding blood flowing through my body, and all the people who want to talk to me, to us.It seems like yesterday I was working at a local gas station as a cashier. I called every customer by their first name because in a small town, it's normal. The population is just over two thousand, and we only have one red light. Elderly people sit on their front porches and recollect memories from the "good ole days". Small children play in the streets, but at night they all collect jars of fireflies. The traffic almost always stops at nine pm. It's unusual to see cars on the road after dark. The bad thing about a small town is that everyone and their grandparents know what you're going to do before you do it, it's like a hole you can't climb out of. It's a smothering place, but I'm glad I'm finally free.
"Time to go Ms. Daniella." The guy placed his hand on my upper back, and he gestured toward two double doors. My stomach tickled from all the butterflies I couldn't digest. This is it. Time to go.
I straightened my back and slowly glided between the doors. My ears were stinging from all of the screams, and my eyes danced around the room at every smiling, teary-eyed face in the crowd of over two thousand. My hand arose from my side to wave awkwardly.
My heart felt at ease, though, when I saw him smiling from the panel. Heat rushed to my cheeks, making them turn a pale crimson shade. The once deafening screams suddenly ceased. It was just me and him casually walking to greet each other. I constantly reminded myself to stay calm around him. If I'm not, I end up making a fool out of myself.
Withing a few short seconds, I embraced him in a tight hug. The screams and camera flashes crecendoed back like a wave on the ocean shore. The smell of his cologne filled my lungs with every inhale. His strong arms embraced me, squeezing me a tiny bit more and more every time I would try to let go. My cheeks were completely numb from smiling.
"It feels like forever, Brayden," I yelled over the fans. Hopefully he heard my shy, timid voice. We finally let go of our tight embrace, but still touching forearms. I've never seen his cheeks this pink before. Our eyes met at the same brief moment, but I glanced away due to my discomfort in confrontation."It's been about four and a half weeks since we last stood face to face, Dani." He gently squeezed my arms. "Literally, it's been about a month." My eyes scanned his face, not leaving any part unexplored. This feeling is dominate. Is it love? We've been talking for almost two months now. My heart says to take things slow, not because things will end badly if I dont, but because it's the right thing to do.
I was spaced out for a moment, so he led me to the panel. I was immediately cloaked with smothering hugs from several members. Graser, Grape, Straub, Bee, and HBomb were surrounding me in a circle. "Okay, guys, she's mine," Brayden stated. They all moved away from me. "Not yet," I smirked at him. The cube members gave each other solid glares. What? Did they have something going on between them, but they could at least tell me. Right?
We all wandered toward empty seats. Brayden took a seat beside me, grinning widely at me. The crinkles by his eyes looked imperfectly perfect. My cheeks tightened with my teeth-showing smile. I looked to my right to see Mitchell laughing and vlogging with Graser. All of my muscles tensed up when I felt cold, soft fingers glide over mine. Brayden's. I felt slightly nervous but also calm. It made me happy.
"I send my regards to the Cube members who couldn't make it today." HBomb's voice began to list the people who weren't here when my ears hung onto something. "Parker Games." Who is that? Is he knew to the Cube? My mind kept replaying his name over again. "Parker. . ."
After H spoke, people began lining up to ask us questions. The first girl in line looked almost five foot five. Under her purple beanie, she had a black, emo pixie cut. Her shirt had some band on the front, and her jeans complimented her curves. She was beautifully unflawed in her own way. "My first question goes to Grape." Her voice was a bit shakey. "What do you enjoy most about being a vlogger/ gamer?" I began to tone everything out. It was easier that way, and it made time fly by.
About an hour and fifteen minutes passed. The next person in line looked like a nerd. Was that on perpouse? He tapped the mic a fee times before he spoke. "My name is Phill." Somehow the microphone fell over and everyone began to laugh at him. "Poor guy," I thought to myself. "I'd like to ask Daniella a question." My attitude perked up slightly. Every camera was turned toward me, so I nodded in agreement with him. "What color are your socks?" I was utterly confused.
My body jolted swiftly as the lights flashed off. Brayden's fingers slid away from mine, and my heart rate jumped. I was terrified. "Brayden? Guys," I began to yell. My hands reached to touch people around me, but all I felt was air. "Where in the hell did they go?" It's too dark to walk around, to even see.
A white light flashed on behind me. "Is this a joke?!" My voice squeaked as I yelled. I was curious, so I began to move my chair to face behind me. My eyes squinted as I tried to adjust them to the light. A tall sillouhette stood before me. Brayden?
His hands held up a microphone close to his lips. Fimiliar music started to play in the distance as he bang to serenade me. "We're only getting older baby, and I've been thinking about it lately. Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes? Everything that you've ever dreamed of disappearing when you wake up, but there's nothing to be afraid of even when the night changes. It will never change me and you." I cupped my hands around my face, hiding me crying happy tears. They started flowing steadily. The music changed again as he moved closer toward me. "You and I. We don't wanna be like them. We can make it till the end. Nothing can come between you and I. Not even the Gods above can separate the two of us. Nothing can come between you and I. Oh, you and I." The track changed once again. He began to sing Drag Me Down, also by One Direction. I see a recurring theme happening here.
When he finished, he walked over toward me and all the lights were switched back on. He turned my chair to the side so we could be in the view of the fans. His fingers wiped away my tears. I grabbed his hands and held them tightly in my lap. The microphone remained in his hand. He started speaking again. "Mario is red. Megaman is blue. Daniella, will you gladly be my player two?" The crowd was yelling and clapping. I gasped so hard that my jaw fell wide open. My lungs were freaking out. They were inflating and deflating faster than my rapid heart beat. I tried to push words out, even a sound, but nothing could slip between my lips fast enough. His face was frozen in a quirky smile that I couldn't answer to. He left me. . . breathless.
