Dani's POV
"Where's Parker," was the first thing Lora asked while sipping her expensive iced coffee. Her eyes would shift back and forth between me and her cell phone.
I raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "He's finalizing some details over his new YouTube show. I thought I told you earlier?" Her eyes crinkled with confusion then quickly widened when her phone buzzed. "Are you okay, Lora? You seem on edge today." She nodded with a certain nervousness then began typing on her phone, ignoring me.
She sighed heavily then looked me in my eyes. "I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want first?" As if this is even a choice.
"Bad news first." I sipped my chai latte with ease as I waited for her to fill me with dread. My mind quickly raced to all the possibilities this 'bad news' could be. Is it our article? Is it Parker? Brayden? Her career? I inhaled deeply then decided to give her all of my attention.
She looked up from her phone with bright eyes. "My son's adoptive mother passed away from ovarian cancer...which was supposedly caused by an unknown disease." My heart sank heavy in my chest. I can only imagine what her son is feeling and going through because loosing a mother is not easy. "Lucas is taking it pretty hard, or so I've been told." Lora sighed as her mind drifted away into deep thought.
"That's so terrible. I'm so sorry. I wish we could've met her before hand." I'm not really sure what to say or do in a situation like this. Nothing really helped me when my mom passed except grieving alone and giving myself time to heal and to process.
"The good news in a sad situation like this is.....the adoptive dad wants to give Lucas back to ME. He said something about how he wants to visit all the places him and his wife traveled to, but Luke wasn't interested at all. He's not ready to leave his friends at school. There's a lot that plays into this." My heart suddenly felt lighter.
My jaw fell open slightly. "So, you're telling me you could possibly get your son back?!" This was exciting news for her. She's waited for this moment for a long time.
Lora smiled brightly. "That's exactly what it means, but it may take months with the courts and lawyers. We're not out of the woods yet, but there's a possibility." I grabbed her hands tight in mine and smiled with her!
This is everything she's ever wanted.
Our phones buzzed at the same time and broke the tension.
Salem uploaded their article about us.
My heart began pounding loudly in my ears as I opened the website to read "Truthful YouTubers Selflessly Stay Drama Free". A small laugh escaped my throat. The title of the article was so funny to me because we've never been drama free until Lora and I became friends again.
Everything happens for a reason, and I am not complaining about anything.
We sat in silence and read the article over three times together while discussing our favorite parts. Salem is really great writer, but I'm still not sure why they write an article about any of this. Regardless, Salem quickly became one of our friends after we conversed that night.
"Dani," Lora looked up from her phone. Very light eyes never broke the gaze until she spoke again. "Will you help me get my son back?"
