A realization buzzed at my limbs, starting at the tips of my ears and working down through my shoulders.

We weren't alone in this house.

Of course. No wonder Ginny had felt emboldened to leave us here, unsupervised, with her precious Select.

So stupid. I'd walked us into another trap. Why could I not ever, ever learn?

It was beyond clear that Ginny supported Patty. I didn't need to know why, only that she did. And I thought she'd let us come in and talk to Sam unsupervised? With the threat that we might sneak her out and escape?

"Sam—" Kirishima's voice came out with a scratch and a scramble, his finger lingering at the crack in the door. "Who are you talking to? It's—me. Kirishima."

Sam paused for only a second before she scoffed. I could hear the tears clogging her throat. "Yeah, right. I know you can mimic voices."

Alarm prickled the back of my neck. I turned around, expecting a monster to jump out at me. There was nothing. Nothing.

I suddenly felt eyes on me from every direction, but I tried to process through it. When you found a spider on you, you got itchy. Every two seconds, you had to check, you had to make sure that another one hadn't fallen on you. But it hadn't. Of course it hadn't.

It's just, once you're aware, you can never be unaware. Not until your danger sense passes.

I don't think my danger sense will be passing any time soon.

"But it's really me," Kirishima said.

He looked back at me, anxiety turning his face all blotchy. I offered what I thought was an encouraging smile as I took a step backwards, turning so my back was against the T in the hallway. I couldn't see into most of the open bedroom, but would anyone be hiding inside what was no doubt Patty's room?

Think. Think.

The spear that destroyed the patrol car had belonged to someone from Seven Deadly Sins. Could it be...could it be him?

King?

The live footage of the wreck had been surprising, but what was most surprising was how King had apparently decided to leave his sacred weapon sticking out of a smoldering vehicle. That was...unusual. Based on his story, King had possibly the closest relationship to his weapon than the other Sins. Multi-purpose, it could transform into several different forms.

One of which was a giant pillow that carried him from place to place.

Doubting my brain was one thing. Doubting my sense of reality, another. But I had yet to see a fairy king gliding around on a giant green and blue pillow.

But did that mean anything? Could it be a warning of someone else?

Maybe it wasn't another anime character at all. Maybe it was one of the witches in the coven.

But where were they hiding?

"Sam," I blurted. "It's Gracie. Who's been bothering you?"

Only after my outburst did I realize I had interrupted an interesting non-conversation. Sam, not quite believing Kirishima was who he said he was, while Kirishima hemmed and hawed and didn't do anything convincing enough to make her believe him.

Startling the two into silence, I met Kirishima's large eyes. Red veins stood out so wide I could see them from ten feet away.

During that pause, I felt the air shift, and I knew whoever was in this house had stopped bothering to hide.
