Lost At Sea

Chapter 14

I run to the control room and burst the door open. The captain looks at me smiling. "There's someone who wants to talk to you." He holds out a headset. "Someone.....wants to....talk to me?" I say out of breath. I put on the headset. "Uh....hello?" I talk into the headset. "OH MY GOSH KATHLEEN!!!" Someone screams. I pull the headset off my ears a little. I try to think of who's voice that is. "....Wait. Rachel!?!? Is that really you!?!?" I shout surprised. "Yup, it's me. I'm not dead, I'm alive and well." She says proudly and I imagine the face she's making. "Well you sure don't sound dead!" I laugh and feel tears starting to form. "So...uh how's everything? On the cruise at least."
"Well we've been trying to distract ourselves from the fact that your gone. It's been hard, especially on Todd and me. But I'm ok now that I know your safe." I start sniffling. The connection starts breaking. "Rachel? Rachel!?!?!" I scream into the headset. Dead silence. There was so much I wanted to tell her. "Rachel...." I start to cry and the captain takes the headset. "It looks like we lost connection, that happens a lot. Are...you ok?" He asks gently. "Yea....I'm ok. She safe. That's all I need to know." I look up at him and wipe my tears away.

"So...uh how is she getting back exactly? Wait. Where is she?" I sit in one of the chairs and spin around. "I think she's in England. And to get her back on the boat she's going to have to meet us in South America. But I warned her that if she isn't there while we are, then she can't come back. Because I can't dock for more than one day."
"Wait. What!?! That's unfair though! What if no one helps her get there! Or-or what if she doesn't make it in time! Is she just going to live in England!!!" I jump out of my chair and yell at the captain. "Now now, calm down. One of my very good friends, Veronica, owns a small fish boat, and Rachel was with her, so I'm sure Veronica will help." The captain tries to calm me down. "Fine, fine."
"Now I think you should tell your friends the good news." The captain smiles. I thank the captain and run back to my room.

"ALLY!!!" I scream as soon as I open the door. "Mm five more minutes." She covers her head with covers. "ALLY OH MY GOSH ALLY!!!" I pull the covers back. "No! Now it's cold...."
"Ally! It's- it's!"
"Spit it out already." Ally sits up and runs her eyes. "Rachel.....she-she's safe!!" I scream. "RACHEL!?!" Ally jumps out of bed and almost hits me. "Whoa there. And yea she's safe." Ally quickly gets dressed. "Did you tell the guys!?"
"Uhh not yet..."
"Well come on!!" Ally drags me to their room. We open the door and see them playing video games. "Guys!! Guys!! Guess what!!" Ally jumps on Jay's bed. "What?" Jay says looking up at her. CJ looks at me. "What's wrong?" He walks up to me. I start tearing up. "Rachel.....she-she's...she's safe!!" I hug CJ without thinking. "Wait they found Rachel!?!" Todd jumps up. "She's really safe!?!"
"How did they find her?!" CJ looks down at me. "Well...they didn't really find her....Rachel just sort of called the captain using a headset and I talked to her for a bit. But then it went dead."
"So when are we gonna see her!?!" Jay asks. "Well the captain says if she can meet us at South America then she can get back on the ship. But..."
"But....?" Everyone looks at me wide-eyed.  I take a deep breath and continue. "If she can't get there for the day that were docked then she can't get back on because the captain can't stay any longer than a day." I say really quickly. "Wait so we just have to hope she gets there in time!?! What if she doesn't make it!? Is she going to stay in England for the rest of her life!?! I'm talking to the captain." Todd shouts and starts to leave. "You can't." I say stopping him. "Why not!?! You think this is unfair too right!?"
"Because- I mean sure I want to see Rachel but there might be some guests that have to be back when we get home. So we shouldn't. Let's just hope Rachel gets there in time." I say looking down waiting for Todd to yell again. "But-" I look up to see CJ put a hand on Todd's shoulder. "Fine." He sits back down playing his game.
