CHAPTER 36

​"Thank you very much, Mr. Brown," Seungcheol said, his voice ringing with triumph. After five intense weeks of spying on Mrs. Jeon, he finally had undeniable evidence of her cruelty towards her own family. He learned about Doctor Aiden, the man hired to watch Yn, and the sickening nature of his thoughts about her. Seungcheol's rage escalated when he discovered that Mrs. Jeon had mvrdered Aiden.

​"He got what he deserved, though no thanks to you, Mother-in-law," he thought, a cold smirk touching his lips as he read the file sent by Mr. Brown, the American detective he had hired.

​Yn was currently in surgery when Seungcheol arrived at the hospital, carrying divorce papers. He knew her heart belonged entirely to Taehyung and that she could never love him as deeply as she loved her former boyfriend. He wanted her to be happy.

​​Yet, a cloud of anxiety formed in his mind: Would she be hurt? Would she feel abandoned? His heart was crushed, even though he had risked everything to free her from her mother.

Suddenly, the door creaked open. Seungcheol turned to greet Yn, but he was surprised to see someone else.

​"Ms. Kim?" he asked in disbelief.

​It was Jisoo. She was equally stunned to find Seungcheol there. "U-uh, Mr. Choi..." Jisoo stammered, struggling to find her voice.

​"I-I just came to i-invite—" Jisoo paused, her hand shaking as she held the wedding invitation. Seungcheol's breath caught; he knew this news would crush Yn. He sighed quietly, looking around awkwardly.

​Jisoo noticed his discomfort. "I am so sorry, Mr. Choi," she said, her eyes filled with empathy. Only Jisoo knew how deeply she had fallen for him when they first met. She had suffered watching him carry his love for Yn, and she felt conflicted about Taehyung and Yn's situation. But she didn't know where the fault lay. Seungcheol, however, did.

​"Why are you marrying Taehyung?" His direct question stunned Jisoo. "I assume you know how much Taehyung and Yn love each other."
​His words sparked a question in Jisoo's mind. She hesitated but gathered the courage to ask what she needed to know. "Why did you marry Yn? I guess you also knew about her past."

​The comeback stung Seungcheol. He remembered their wedding night, when Yn confessed her love for Taehyung but hid the truth about her stepmother's cruelty. They had promised to keep their relationship official only, in private, they were just friends, nothing more.

​"She told me on our wedding night," Seungcheol confessed.

​This admission shocked Jisoo. It made her wonder if what Taehyung believed that Yn had cheated on him with Seungcheol was true, or if this couple had simply pretended to be in love. "But why did y—"

​The cabin door creaked open again. Yn walked in, looking exhausted, and instantly froze at the unexpected sight.

​Taehyung was in a state of continuous turmoil, relentlessly calling Jisoo. He had just woken up, suffering from a severe hangover after losing himself to alcohol every night. Memories of Yn flooded his mind, and the reality of his impending marriage to Jisoo only fueled his self-loathing. Jisoo’s silence was now adding to his frustration. In a fit of anger and desperation, he had agreed to the marriage, and he knew he couldn't back out now. Yet, he had secretly hoped she would be the one to say no.
