Today, the clear blue skies made room for the sun. The sun's light coruscates upon the bead of sweat on your skin.
Today, the wind blew gently, dispelling the sun's heat. The grass sways and your jersey flutters.
Today, you somehow managed to come early to soccer practice. You relish in the fact that you don't have to get an atomic wedgie from Nozomu.
But your celebratory thoughts were cut off by the green haired boy's loud whistle.
"Alright, listen up fellas." Nozomu said in a commanding tone.
All of the soccer team members immediately form a clean line, knowing the punishments that Nozomu can dish out.
"A few important events for our club– sports clubs– are coming up. I don't really know the details, but the folks from the student council planning committee and the Tralcrieie admin said they'll finalize some stuff by the end of the week."
"—But. What I do know is that we need to be in top form on these events, so... we're doing an assessment drill. Get into groups of 11."
As soon as Nozomu stopped talking, chaos ensued. Everyone ran around, grabbed each other, and tried to recruit the stronger players in their respective teams.
Within a few minutes, everyone got settled into their teams of 11.
However, there was one group that only had 9 people in it, and you couldn't help but overhear their conversation with Nozomu.
"...Eight, nine– Looks like you're missing two guys."
"What do we do, captain?"
"I'll have to join your team when you play, but..."
"...You'd still be missing a member, so for now, you're benched."
Nozomu's response leaves the 9 member team a bit dejected.
After you finished eavesdropping on their conversation, you stretched just a bit. If your team's paired with them, your match might not even happen anyways, so why bother.
Several minutes later, everyone has just about finished stretching and/or strategizing. Nozomu blew his whistle again.
"Everyone! In 10 seconds, there better be a representative per team here with me. We're picking lots to see which teams get matched with each other."
"Yes, sir!" Everyone said, almost in unison, quickly picking someone to draw their teams' lots.
Your representative came back to announce the results to your team.
"We got paired with them."
He said nonchalantly, pointing to the 9-person team.
The responses of your teammates were pretty mixed.
"Yay~! That means we win by default, right?"
"Ugh... I really wanted to play though."
And with that, you decided to just take it easy and sit on the grassy field.
...That was, until a certain someone showed up a few minutes after the first match started.
"Yo, Hiiragi. Nice to see that you've finally decided to come by." Nozomu said with a slight condescendence in his tone.
"My apologies. The student council was busy with planning."
"Tsk. Why did they have to merge two big events into one and expect
us to do everything?" The familiar brown haired boy muttered under his breath.
"Got any new updates about the event for me, mister prez?"
