Chapter One - Starting Off
When we reached Ohio, I looked at my surroundings. The houses were perfectly lined with each other. The front lawns were well looked after with trimmed grasses. The houses were average in size too. Mom drives some more which lead us to the part of the town where there were huge Victorian houses. The houses were so huge. It makes me feel so penniless. So poor.
"Mom, I think we passed the house that we're going to move in to," I explained to Mom.
"No, Honey. We're going to live there," she replied pointing her index finger to a huge Mansion. The house was so big. It basically screams, 'I'm a house for rich people.'
"Uh, Mom. Are you sure? It seems like we can't afford that much of a luxury." I said in curious tone.
"No. We won't be paying Honey. That house is my parents' house." she said while smiling proudly.
"Oh my God, Mom!" I said surprised.
It was a lot to take in alright. I mean, Mom was so rich and I never knew anything about it. How come? She's my mother. I suppose I had the right to know this before.
"We're here. Can you please help me with our things Tiff?" mom said smiling as we got out of the car in front of the Mansion.
"Okay mom!" I said happily.
"There you are!" said a woman probably in here late 50's. She and Mom looked alike except for Mom's eye which has the color of ember. While the woman's are blue. She was wearing a brown dress with an aztec design and high heeled shoes. Wow!
"Tiff, did you know it was rude to stare?" Mom said, "Say Hi to your grandmother."
"Hi. You must be my grandmother! Nice to meet you!" I said. "Sorry for staring a while ago, I'm just surprised and curious at the same time."
"Oh! It's okay dear. My name is Gertrude Walsh. Nice to meet you too," she said with a warm smile. "You must be really tired. Come on. Follow me."
She lead me inside the house. I looked around and saw paintings, beautiful flower vases, and more. The design was minimal but it's an understatement if you said that the house was great. No, it was perfect. The walls were painted with pastel gray and maroon to accentuate the color. I can't believe I'm going to live here. I looked towards Grandma Gertrude and she was already halfway up the stairs. I ran to catch up with her. When we reached the second floor, my jaw dropped. Wow! It looked just like the first floor but much more elegant. Someone pinch me please.
"Here is your room, Tiffany." Grandma said. "Feel at home"
"Okay Gram. Thank you" I said, happiness evident in my voice.
"I'll leave you for now dear. Your mother and I has a lot of catching up to do. We'll call you later when it's time for dinner. Bye!" she said slowly leaving.
