as you probably assumed, this fan fiction will be very different

oh and i started with zero because this chapter is literally so short, sort of like a prologue.

It's been a while.

He's well aware of that. Around six years to be exact. Time allows people to grow and change, he learned that at an early age when his clan was massacred. But he didn't want to dwell on that, it was over now. He had completed his plan to avenge his family, and that's why he was here in the first place, in his old home, lying face up, staring up at the ceiling blankly, alone. Just like he had expected.

He had only returned two days ago, enough time for him to confront Lady Tsunade and the elders to accept his punishment. He knew that there was a great chance of him being sentenced to death, which he would've been alright with years ago when he was still cold and distant from his emotions, but things were different now and he was well aware of what life could bring, what a certain pinkette could bring.

Which is why he never felt so relieved when the elders and Lady Tsunade decided to let him live to restore his clan and bring back the sharingan to the leaf. He did have to face certain punishment, getting his chakra sealed temporarily. Lady Tsunade had promised that if he had shown promise in becoming a loyal leaf shinobi once again, she would break the seal. So he didn't fret too much, he thought it was a reasonable punishment.

He was even lucky enough to get Lady Tsunade to give him his time to recuperate in his old compound, allowing him to settle in by himself before venturing off into the leaf to reunite with his old friends. It's not that he was disinterested in seeing them again after all this time, but he just wasn't ready. Would they welcome him back into their life? He sure wouldn't, after all that he's done to them...why would they. But there was no hurt in trying to rekindle old flames.

A certain pink-haird girl fluttered into his thoughts, his body feeling nervous as he imagined seeing her again. He vaguely remembers how she was the only reason that could've made him stay, the only person that made him step back and think about what he was about to do before he up and left his village. But in order to fulfill his goal, he had to push her aside, not giving a single fuck if it hurt her or not, he was selfish like that. But over the years of no longer feeling her warm presence, or hearing her velvety voice, realization hit him like a truck. All he needed was her to feel alive again. She showed how much she cared about him, putting her life before his. She would be the family he ever needed. But he messed up over a dark blood-lust. A chill ran down his spine.

All he ever wanted now was to be with her. The beautiful, brave, and smart girl who showed unconditional love to him even when he acted like an ass toward her. 'Never again.' He decided that he'd spend the rest of his life making it up to her, showing her that her love would never go to waste again and that it was something he was lucky to receive in the first place. The ill thought that she had fallen out of love with him crossed his mind, but it was so sickly that he pushed it back as far away as possible. He would be with her, no matter what.

'Tomorrow', he thought to himself as he turned to his side, pulling the blanket further up his body, nuzzling into the warm fabric. 'I will see her.'

But little did he know that 'she' was now someone entirely different.
