[The actual prompt was emotional angst but that sucks as a title so I just took the quote and yeah. The angst I promised is here :D

Set right at the end of season 8

The world was ending.

In perhaps only 20 minutes, the moon would come crashing down onto their world: onto Hermitcraft.

And it was all Exiona's fault.

Him and his stupid glitched self, corrupting the code of the world and causing the delicate fabrics that held the universe together to tear apart.

Almost all the Hermits had evacuated or were — hopefully — preparing to leave.

He desperately tried not to think of Tango.

Time had sped up while the concept of gravity had become something quite ambiguous what with the moon looming directly overhead and all. He shuddered, watching as a tree outside his brother's base was finally torn from the ground and was pulled upwards.

It all felt so... surreal.

But it was not.

And that was all his fault.

"Exiona?" he heard a voice call anxiously. "Are you in here?" His brother's figure appeared in the doorway, a silhouette against the ghostly glow of the moon behind him. "Exiona?" Xisuma asked again, his voice softer. "Are you... all right?"

Exiona did not trust himself to speak at that moment, what with his current crippling sense of guilt and self-hatred. Instead he opted to nod his head stiffly, which, of course, did nothing to satisfy Xisuma, who at once strode over and knelt down in front of him.

"Boatem have gone," Xisuma said, glancing at his communicator. "So has mostly everyone else..."

The "hopefully" remained hanging in the air.

"I—I'm sorry," Exiona choked out, desperately looking anywhere else but his brother's ever so patient eyes. "I—I shouldn't have ever even sh—shown up — it's all my fault—" he couldn't finish, unable to stop the wave of tears that came flooding out, punctuated every so often by a broken apology or hiccup.
"Sh... don't—don't worry, Exiona," Xisuma murmured softly as he pulled his twin into a warm embrace. "None of this is your fault — nothing ever was your fault. I'm the one who should be sorry; I pushed you away when you needed me most; I failed to check your code when you asked me to — all because I was so–so– blinded and– and fooled by these stupid feelings of anger and hatred and I—I didn't— Void, how can you even forgive me, Exiona? I didn't even care for whether you'd changed or not." There was only silence, despite the fact that an intense roaring was growing louder and louder as the moon grew closer and closer and the chunks around the two brothers began to crumble into tiny pixels. But to them, there was only a strange sense of peace as well as quiet that neither of them had felt before, nor could describe in any words.

After a moment, Xisuma spoke up again, "And I'm so, so sorry, that I was such a terrible brother – twin – to you, Sona," Xisuma said, clutching his brother close. Exiona did not reply, and something inside Xisuma twisted as he thought that perhaps he hadn't been forgiven yet, and he was being so selfish to assume—

There was a bonk on his head, and then, "I already forgave you for that, you derp," Exiona said, although his voice was still slightly shaky. He paused before repeating. "I already have, Suma." He gave a small smile.

"Shall we?" Xisuma asked, typing the command into his communicator. "You first."

Exiona nodded, rising to his feet. "Xisuma?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

Xisuma let out a watery laugh. "I love you too. You ready?"

"Yes," Exiona replied.

"Okay, here goes," Xisuma said, typing in the command.

Nothing happened.

"Wait–wait–oh Void, Ex, it's your—it's your code!" Xisuma cried out after a moment as he furiously spammed 'enter'. "I can't—damn it this is all my fault—why didn't I check your code?!"

Exiona stilled, and a creeping realisation sunk in as it dawned on him what he had to do. "It's okay, Suma," he said slowly. "Go: go and save yourself."

"But I can't just leave you here to die!" Xisuma exclaimed, although it sounded more of a wail than anything. "There—I could try—oh dear Lord why did I– so stupid—"

"It's all right, X," Exiona insisted, feeling strangely calm considering the fact he was about to die. "Really."

"But I–" and in that moment, Xisuma felt all the sorrow and ache he had felt in his twin's absence resurface all at once, "I can't lose you again. Not when I've just got you back."

"I'll always be with you, X," Exiona said, embracing the other Voidwalker. He cringed at how corny that had sounded, and he told that part of himself just where it could stick it up, before he continued. "Besides, this glitch is a part of me – I'm a part of it. I'll only be hurting you more if I—even if I could stay."

10 seconds to impact

"I'm so—so sorry, Sona," Xisuma choked out, vision swimming with unshed tears. "I'm–"

5 seconds to impact

"You don't have to be. It's fine. It's okay. I'm okay. It's not your fault."

3 seconds to impact

"I just wanted to say–"

"–that I love you–"

"Goodbye, brother," they both said, for there were so many words to be said but not enough time to say them, and as Xisuma pressed 'enter' Exiona stepped back and let go, his fingers brushing against Xisuma's before the latter was gone.

He stared defiantly at the moon only two feet away from his face, and grinned.

[So... yup. as promised the more angstier one. hehe. i love void twins they make me ill. this is kinda my way of interpreting why evil x wasn't there for season 9 or 10. also... *coughs* the fact that evil xisuma mind controlled x the whole season does not exist in MY canon (this fic. totally because i didn't forget about it at all. haha. noooo-) so yeah. i hoped you liked it :D
