Michael thought a lot about what Caroline said. He couldn't possibly like Luke.

He refused.

There is nothing that his dopey older sister could say that would change the fact that Michael despises Luke.

Not even when she said that she's going to make Luke like him as well.

To that, Michael rolled his eyes and drowned in the beers they stole from their dad.

Caroline insisted that the boys would be together by the end of senior year in three months. Michael scoffed.

"Cece, I like," he hiccuped, then giggled, "Boys."

"Mikey..." She warned. She was only slightly buzzed by the one beer she sipped on.

Michael had seven beers. And he was flat out drunk.

"Cece..." Michael mocked.

"Ooookaaaay." Caroline drawled out, swiping the eighth beer from Michael's fingertips.

"Cece, why?!" Michael shouted, slightly scaring Caroline.

"Because I already lost mum, I'm not losing you." Michael shut up. Instantly.

Luke and Liz walked the whole way home.

They talked about Michael, all the past fights and how Liz and Andy's marriage seemed off.

Luke was the first person to know that his mom was skeptical about their marriage.

Liz was the first person to know why Luke hated Michael so much.

They both assured each other that everything was going to be okay.

Luke was the first person ever to see Elizabeth Hemmings cry.

And man, did she cry.

Luke asked the question that hurt the most, "If you really feel this way, why don't you guys get a divorce?" They rounded the corner to their house.

"Kid, when your older, if your kid ever asks you that. I want you to reply just as I do. I married someone I love. Someone I knew I would always love. I'm never giving up on him because of my skepticism. Hemmings' never give up, never on love."

                                                                                     ***

(Luke's Point of View):

"Luke, honey. Time to get up." Her voice was soft, which scared me greatly.

I shot up in impeccable timing, eyeing her like she was a donkey who called me an ass.

"Just get up, kid." She sighed, stalking out of my room.

I got dressed and grabbed my bag, slipping myself down the stairs and out the door.

I walked to school, really not wanting to have to deal with the annoying little shits on the bus.

Even if it was a thirty minute walk, it was worth it. The bus not only had the high school kids but also, the littler kids. I don't hate kids. Just those ones. They either smelled like sweat or cheese and made the yellow tin-can a horrific experience.

Then it started to rain. Then lightning struck two houses down.

I decided to brave the storm, literally.
