The quiet peacefulness of the small church in Minnesota was suddenly broken when a strong wind stirred the candles on the altar. The pastor looked up just as the door creaked open and a young woman, petite with short blonde hair, stepped inside and sat in a pew.

Meg.

"I need to talk," she said.

The pastor descended from the pulpit with a gentle presence. "Well, that's what I'm here for."

She confessed to sins—lying, stealing, lust. Then, with calm detachment, she added that she'd recently met a kind man, chatted with him...then slit his throat and tore out his heart.

Her eyes turned black.

"I know what you are," the pastor said as he recoiled. "You can't be here. This is hallowed ground."

"Please," Meg huffed, "Maybe that works in the minor leagues, but not with me."

The pastor fled to a hidden room, locked the door, and armed himself from a hunter's chest. But she quickly broke through unfazed, catching the blessed blade he attempted to hurl at her.

"What do you want?" he demanded.

"The Winchesters." She stated.

"I haven't spoken to John Winchester in over a year," he said. "You're wasting your time. Even if I did know where they were, I'd never tell you."

"I know," she replied.

He looked surprised—caught off guard by her response—but before he could question it, Meg slit his throat with one swift motion.

Their motel room looked like the inside of a conspiracy theorist's mind. Every inch of the walls were covered—weather charts, hieroglyphics, newspaper clippings, hand-scribbled notes in John's unmistakable scrawl.

Kat moved quietly along the wall, scanning the pinned-up research with a focused intensity. Her neck still ached from being bitten—despite it healing faster than expected.

"This is it," John said, gesturing to the chaos around them. "This is everything I know. Our whole lives we've been searching for this demon, right? Not a trace, just nothing—until about a year ago. For the first time, I picked up a trail."

Kat glanced over her shoulder at him. "That's when you left."

John nodded. "Yeah. The demon must've come out of hiding or hibernation. The trail starts in Arizona, then New Jersey, California—houses burned to the ground. It's going after families, just like it went after us."

Kat straightened, still combing over the research as she spoke. "Families with infants?"

John nodded, "Yeah, the night of the kid's six-month birthday."

Sam's voice dropped, "I was six months old that night?"

"Exactly six months." John confirmed.

Sam swallowed hard. "So basically this demon is going after these kids the same way it came for me?" A beat of silence settled in the room, but he continued. "So...Mom's death, Jessica—it's all cause' of me?"

"Sam, no." Kat said quickly, her voice firm. "There's something more going on here."

Sam looked at her, eyes dark and unconvinced. "How can you be so sure?"

Dean cut in, his voice sharp. "For the last time, what happened to them is not your fault."

Sam flared. "Yeah, you're right, it's not my fault—but it's my problem!"
