The click of the door knob turning and opening echoed loudly in the quiet room. The door slammed shut even louder.

Where else could I hide, except behind all of those oak bookcases. I hid behind one of the ones near the front, not the best strategy, but It was the best I could do at such short notice.

His footsteps echoed throughout the whole room, which made it difficult to hear where he was. I heard him drop something near me, I quietly scurried down the bookcase and back so I could see his back leg extend as he cursed and picked up his dropped item.

If I was going to evade him, the best way to do it, would be to stay behind him, and stay out of sight.

The man started walking slowly up and down each row of books, shooting a glance down each row as he got there, his hand on his gun.

Suddenly he began to whistle, which was so loud in the huge silent room, it made me jump and knock a loose book off of its shelf.

My arms flailed in desperation as I tried to catch it, but between the panic and my butter fingers, the book slipped out of my hand and landed on the ground with a very loud thud.

The guard whipped around and starred right at me before springing into action.

Paul ripped his gun out of his belt and held it up

"FREEZE!" He yelled, gun steadily trained on my chest.

We stood there, frozen. I didn't know what to do, so I tried to come up with some bullshit story that could get me out of this.

"Paul? Hi! It's me,  uh, Linda! I'm AJ's sister!" I said, smiling at him.

"AJ doesn't have a sister" he replied gun still trained on me.

"He didn't tell you about me? Oh AJ, such a secretive little man!" I chuckled.

"What are you doing in here? Why didn't AJ tell us about you, at all?" Paul asked, expressionless.

"Him and I have never been very close darling, he doesn't talk about his family much at all, he's kind of the outcast in the family. And I knew he was going through some hard times right now, so I figured I'd pay him a visit! We are family after all" I replied, praying this would work.

Paul raised an eyebrow before slowly lowering his gun. Did that really work? Is he going to let me go?

"I suppose you want me to bring you up to AJ then" he said, gun at his side, still out in case he needed it.

"That's not necessary thank you, I am quite capable of finding him myself thank you, so I should get going now, it's getting late" I replied slowly backing up before turning around completely.

"With all do respect ma'am, why are you so filthy? You look like you've been locked in a basement for quite some time" Paul stated, letting out a small chuckle.

Shit. He knows. He knows that I'm lying. I need a different plan, and I need to think of it really fast.

"Put your hands where I can see them, and turn around, SLOWLY" he barked, raising his gun once again.

Slowly I did as he asked, I raised my hands above my head and turned around to face him once again.

"Did you really think I was that stupid? That your dress being all dirty and ripped, your face covered with dirt, your hair clumped, wouldn't give me a clue that you are indeed the girl?" he asked, a smirk crossing his face.

"I think it's best if I don't answer that question" I replied.

Why did I say that? That was dumb, all I've done now is pissed him off, and screwed my chances, if there were any, of him letting me go.

"Shut up and keep your hands above your head" he snarled moving towards me, gun trained on my chest.

I was royally screwed, if I ran, I risked the chance of him shooting me, not to kill me, just to stop me from moving, and if I tried to do anything to him, I risked the chance of him accidentally firing his gun into my chest and killing me. My best option was to just go along with it until a better opportunity came along.

Paul walked over to me and spun me with one hand so I was facing the door. The man started mumbling something under his breath and I heard him holster his weapon.

Now or never.
