Chapter 4
For some odd reason, a memory didn't come back to me that night. It was as though Fate said, "That's it, have her figure out the rest."
I was happy, but kind of sad too because now I had to figure out why I was remembering those memories and what they mean. I went through the morning semi-carefree until I bumped into him. I was opening my locker and taking out what I needed when I heard him.
"Your brother gave me quite a scare last night."
I slammed the locker closed in irritation.
"That was the point."
"Well I'm not giving up."
I ignored him and started walking away.
"Sky wait up!"
I started walking faster, but his football legs caught up with me.
"Okay I get it, you think it's a trap whatever, but come on. Give me a chance."
I stopped and turned around. "That's how it starts."
"What?"
"The nonsense you just gave me: that's how it starts. And then the girl gives in, then you treat her like crap."
"I'm not like that guy!" He protested.
"Oh please, all guys are like that." I retorted.
"Why are you so mean?"
"You want to know why? Because I don't trust anyone and I burn off ice. That's the way I am." I hissed.
"Maybe I'm different." He meekly replied.
"No guy is different Jack."
I walked away leaving him in his misery.
"Sky?"
I turned ready to yell something to Jack, but instead Marleigh was standing there.
"Yeah?"
"Were you just talking to Jack Bellington?"
"Yeah."
"Boy I feel bad for him."
"Mmmhmmm."
"Do you know why he's giving you that crap?"
"Nope."
"Because he went through something scary at Marcyn Plaza and he's trying to be nice so that karma won't bite him in the butt."
I stopped right when she said Marcyn Plaza.
"What happened?"
"He was dared to run into Marcyn Plaza and touch the stone, but something went wrong. He waltzed in there and as he reached the stone, something hit him in the stomach. He tried to get away, but as he escaped, the thing kept on hitting him until he was out of there."
So that's why he got scared when my brother jumped out at him. I smiled. I should use that next time he talks to me.
"You're still not gonna be nice to him are you?"
"Nope. I"m gonna make it worse."
I turned the corner and once again I saw Jack.
Just come and try. I smirked.
"Sky, you seriously gotta give me a chance."
"You know what...You're right." I walked closer to him and we were only a few milimeters away. "But I don't go out with wussies."
His eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean?"
I laughed. "I think you know. Remember that day in Marcyn Plaza?"
His hands began to shake. "You were so close to that stone and yet something stopped you." I whispered in his ear. "And you know what? The ghost will want more fear. Your fear."
"What do you want?" He whimpered.
"I want you to leave me alone unless I talk to you or I need your help."
He did a quick nod and I stepped back.
"Have a good day Jack." I smiled and walked away, relieved that the problem was handled.
I walked out of the building and saw my locker buddy, Jeanette.
"Jeanette! You know how Jack was annoying me?"
"I do now."
"Well, I took care of him."
"Good job, but um, what did you do?"
Jeanette's eyes widened and I turned to see what was going on. Jack was on the floor while others were trying to wake him up.
"I reminded him of a few things."
"Scary things?"
"Maybe."
"Sky!"
"What? I scared him a little, so what?"
Jeanette shook her head, "Someday Sky, everyone will run in fear."
I shrugged. "Like I care."
I walked out of the school and went in the direction of Marcyn Plaza.
It was almost impossible to imagine Marcyn Plaza back in the day, but I managed. It was hard to believe that a place like that was one hundred and fifty years old. I mean it's like realizing that this beautiful mansion was very old. Yeah exactly! Okay, I know it doesn't make sense, but it does to me. Anyways, the place was completely deserted just like yesterday and I was brave enough to tour the whole place this time.
The whole place looked normal except for the fact that there was a stone in the middle of the plaza. With one last look at the plaza, I went home wondering what my memories had to do with Marcyn Plaza. Fortunately, one of my questions were answered when I found an old ad from the time the bread factory was up. I know creepy right? And you're probably thinking, what does that have to do with anything
Well lots of things: I could learn about history and the memories and... you're right it's useless. Okay you got me, but there was one thing that was shocking. My great (to the seventh power) grandparents were the founders of Marcyn Plaza and I guess that grandpa was a bit short tempered. Maybe Marcyn Plaza is haunted...Considering his temper, he might haunt a lot of people. Haha scared now? Well if you don't think you can handle it, then either close these pages or press the back button and face the word, weenie, the rest of your life...Relax I'm kidding.
Well I came back home and up to my computer to figure out more. No wait...No I'm sorry I went to my mom to ask for more information.
"Hey mom?"
"Yeah?"
"Did you know that Marcyn Plaza was founded by our relatives?"
"Really?!"
"Yup. You never told me... How come?"
She looked at me and sighed. "Sky I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to continue their reckless reputation."
"Such as?"
"Such as sneaking out at night and having guys in their room."
"Mom! It was only once and the guy was hanging from the window!"
"Mmmhmm."
"What? You don't believe me?"
"I'm trying to."
"Forget it. Don't lie."
I ran up to my room considering my options. I could run away and solve the mystery on my own or I could stay and tell my mommy I was a bad, bad girl. I knew what I had to do.
